OMG OMG OMG BRUIN VIDEO!

A good LBC performance. I'm happy they did what they do best and there's beauty in their simplicity. Perhaps if I had watched this in 2007, I would have loved it much more then.

Great to see these guys back in action. It was kinda refreshing to see a simple and fairly well executed routine. You guys make bhangra look so easy to do. Well done!!

Hmmm.......I can't really see how you describe this routine as "simply amazing" or "routine was nuts" as Meistro put it. It was an ordinary routine from the choreo, to the song selection, to the formations.....even the execution wasn't as good as it could have been. Most of the dancers are skilled, graceful dancers (jhummar was nice)....but there were def some noticeable mistakes and a lack of energy by a few dancers. On one hand, you can tell the dancers are having a blast, it comes naturally, great nakhre etc. But overall, compared to some of the routines we've seen in the past couple of years, this was pretty average.

i can def see what your saying but this is how they do it. Yes they might have a simple, slower routine but what makes them so good is their nakhra and skill of their dancers. I absolutely loved it!!

but going along with what your saying NSC, perhaps they only placed 3rd because they don't have complex formations like empire and drp and some formations were a little messy. But like im saying, thats why they placed 3rd and deserved 3rd.

jhummar was my favorite! ;D

agreed. I noted my issues with the mix/song selection (which I believe hurt them) in the other thread...but I think there's something to be said about a team that leaves you smiling in the end, and since I think that's how most people were left (including me, I mean Jasmine has always been the 'supergirl' of Bhangra hasn't she?), 3rd is a good placing for a great team

NSC, the routine was nuts and amazing. I just look at bhangra differently than you do. Sure they could have had more songs, and they used dushmani for a solid 2 min for their intro, they were a bit sloppy at times. But their bhangra was so effortless. Nowadays you see teams that try so hard and gets them nowhere: they have no nakhrey, have no grace, have horrible execution, they speed up their songs so that the singer sounds like a chipmunk, they look so hyper and have fake expressions. LBC took their time through this performance and emphasized grace and nakhra. You were really able to cherish those aspects of their performance. For example, their khichaan in the beginning when all of the dancers are have khundey and theres a tower in the middle. That was so simple, yet beautifully executed. Their song selection, even though they could have had more songs, were very effective. They went so well with their choreography. Put jattan de mardhey barkhaan, the song after that, londono patola, they hit so hard and they are overlooked by half of you guys. This is what makes LBC such a unique team which sets them apart from Traditional teams and modern teams. They are smack dab in the middle.

Okay, let me add a little to what I said before and respond to others. First, never in my response did I say anything about whether they deserved or didn't deserve 3rd place. Second, I appreciate LBC's style. They are good at what they do. Their choreo is simple, yet the grace and nakhre with which some of the dancers do it definitely enhances its appeal. The dancers have fun, nothing is forced etc. In that sense, yeah it was a good performance...BUT overall it was not a polished routine......the khunda segment was okay, the song selection was not really original (dushmani, sher punjabi, safari have been used 1000x's)....there were mistakes throughout the performance...should that stuff not be pointed out? In my mind, the 2007 Bruin routine was better.

Harman, in order for a performance to be amazing, it has to be technically on point before anything else. Everyone will come on here and say LBC LBC LBC so great no matter what they do just because of what they have done in the past. No team should be exempt from constructive criticism. Its all about what you bring to the stage on that night, regardless of your history.

1st edit: Meistro, I love both watching and doing graceful, traditional bhangra. So, I doubt that just because we don't agree on 1 performance that we "don't see bhangra in the same way"....thats pretty extreme buddy. For the record, I enjoyed Virse de waris' latest routine, but I've been so swamped studying for boards that I haven't really had time to post a review....speaking of which, back to studying.

2nd edit: Please don't hijack this thread...I don't think any more people should respond to my review. Leave your own comments about the performance....some people will agree with me and some people won't but everyone is entitled to their opinions.

LBC ripped up those songs, majority of the teams that used those songs did not perform well on it.

I agree with NSC on a lot of his points.

This performance did not remind me of the LBC that I always loved, yet seemed like it was performed by a new set of dancers (even though I know it was the same group of guys). The execution of the routine just wasn't there, the energy levels of the dancers varied (some of them did not complete entire moves/did not extend their arms like the rest of their teammates), the team does not stay insync (compare their sycronization to past performances of Empire, SGPD, etc), etc. As others have stated, I wasn't amazed by their mix because of the overused songs, without any different elements to add in.

Their coreography and routine is just average, especially if you compare it to the amazing "modern" and "traditional" performances we've seen this past year. I agree that their routine was slow, hence they had the advantage of focusing on nakhre and dancing with grace. I wasn't too impressed with the gimmicks/stunts.. Jasmine was struggling to hold up that guy & almost fell foward. LBC will remain one of my favorite "modern" bhangra teams, but I wasn't crazy about this performance.

My personal opinion on LBC's overall coreography, song selections, and performances: Bruin 2006 > Bruin 2007 > Bruin 2009

~ Basim :)

P.S. - I haven't seen the other Bruin performances so I cannot comment on if LBC deserved to place 3rd.

The reason I love lbc is not for really any other reason but the fact that there choreo is simple to the point that it seems like anyone can do it(especially the WAY they perform it) and that they are having a blast. So many times you hear about drama and crap everywhere, but to me Bhangra will always be a chill time that looks like an artform. LBC, in my mind, represents that to a tee from there execution to the way they are on stage. It just makes you want to get up and dance.
