...I feel sorry for Furteelay Shokeen, being the first team and having their music stop not even 2 mins in
when furteelay opened the show i got excited because it was so high energy and enjoyable to watch, i had them placing but were performing with a handicap the second time around due to the technical difficulties.....suckss mann..whatever..u guys are freakin sick...hope to see u guys soon

Feel bad for Furteelay Shokeen. These kids put in a lot of hard work and effort for this competition and it is a shame they had to deal with these issues. I know it is not directly the committee's fault but as a gesture of good will and respect they should return their registration fee or offer some sort of compensation to them for making the trip to Toronto only to have their chance of placing end before it even began.

Don’t worry guys, you will get ‘em next time.

In my opinion, I thought this wasn't the SGPD I'm used to watching. I wasn't shocked that they didn't place. The SGPD from Bhangra Masti 2[2008] was MUCH better and more traditional. I felt as if their routine was a bit modern at parts. And sometimes formations were confusing. But I gotta say ASG absolutely ripped it on stage and is one of the best dancers in the Bhangra community. Also the Phumnia was pretty sick.

ill go ahead and give the first review, tho it wont be completely comprehensive cause i didnt catch everyone:

music =

jawani warriors - i walked in rite at the saaps set, so i didnt really get into it until i sat down, but it was right about then wen they picked up the khunde and MAN was that awesome...their khunde set was amazing, and they really topped it off nicely with the chimta spin as well...that is when everyone KNEW they were going to place, just a matter of how hard the other teams would bring it to go up against them...overall, the performance had good energy, smiles were on point, but it was a tad bit messy...not a lot, but it wasnt completely clean...either way, i would have given them the first cause they killed it :)

virsa - shoutout to my boyss, did a great job on stage! mix was banging like always, n i liked some of the new choreo...gary killed phumania like always haha, n manmeet n karma had good smiles on stage...energy was pretty good, but formations n moves got a bit messy in certain parts...either way, i thought they did a good job on stage n third place seems strait

live:

gajjde - nice job to anooj for picking up the ENTIRE set the night before the performance, including formations and moves and everything...he had to fill in for my little cousin rohit who messed up his leg the nite before when we were runnin the routine in the academy (had to be in the hospital all nite cause of it), so mad props to him...also, big ups to pumpi n kanwar for their first bhangra comp, they really learned quickly...love to my regulars as well :)

nachdi jawani - only saw it from a side angle, but wen i saw the vid, it looked much better from the front...the dancers are all amazing in their execution and stage presence, and they were very clean...energy was good, smiles were good, the only thing that i didnt like was the ending spins...the idea was cool, but i dont think it looked good in a folk live set cause they chadre flew up, and they were off 2...if it wasnt for that, this would be battling PPA for first place (ill get to my placings)

ppa - omg, everything was nastyyyyyyyyy....everyone was on point, one of the cleanest live performances i have seen from a NA team...u really couldnt take ur eyes of benny n surmeet, they absolutley killed it up there...i really cant give them any suggestions xcept maybe go faster? lol, not that the routine was really slow or nething, but thats about the only thing i can even think of haha...great job to you boys, i have no clue how it was not first place

hpd - :(...i feel so bad for my boys, they were hellaaaa clean up to the phuman mess up...they started out great, and man wen it got to jhummar, i couldnt even stay in my seat...however, the phuman mishap happened soon after, n that really messed it all up for em...even after the phuman incident (which took up nearly 30 seconds), they still did very well, but i noticed a few things off in formations, which u usually never see from a team like hpd...if it wasnt for the phuman incident, i would have have had no clue to pick between hpd n ppa...but, keep ur chin up boys, def will get em next time

kohinoor - also a very clean n graceful live team...all the dancers had great smiles and stage presence, n energy was very consistent throughout...however, i would have liked to see the set a bit faster and harder hitting...still, there is no way this set should not have placed, as they did an excellent job as well

my placings:

1. ppa
2. nachdi/kohinoor tie
3. hpd

now a quick shoutouts thread:

masti committee - atinder, andy, and aaron are some amazing people...they did so much for us, especially with the incident with my cousin messing up my leg and havin to go to the ER....andy stayed up and made SURE i called him to tell him everything going on, and they even got us a ride back and forth from there...also, people from the academy went all around to find a patti/balm for my cousin (since it was canada day, everything was closed), so i believe some of them even went to their own homes just to get it...i cant begin to say what a great team shan-e-punjab is, they all really genuinely care about meeting, interacting with, and helping out all the teams...as far as committee members go, you will NEVER find a better group than these guys, so a huge shoutout and thanks to them again for everything!

jasraj n kulvir - thanks again big time boys for chimtaing/pugh tying...these boys really came through in the clutch, and we had a great time chillin wit em...mad respect to both them :)

benny for helpin out with my cusin as well, and arjun for bring a vuvuzela to the competition hahaha...im sorry if im missin everyone, but masti was a great comp, hopefully we will be back next time! :)...i encourage every team to apply

Review of teams i saw

Music

Furteeley Shokeen- Cd Skipped set started from the begining. Set was w.e. Too many small mistakes. Chadreh showing legs, paghs about to fall, shikeh breaking.

DCMPAA- For your guys first co-ed comp this was really good and clean. Girl in the blue vardi narsty, Gurpreet pannu killed the thari jhummar :)

Jawani Warriors - Godly set :| Soooo fast and clean good doo doo boys

Virsa- Decent set. The exiting of the shikeh was hella off and looked really bad when they were getting stuck and throwing them off.

WB- Didnt catch them

SGPD- Just saw the video

Girls Category

Phulkari- They had traditional steps. They were really boring and didnt have much formations except circles and two lines. Girls Died out and what not. Didnt deserve first at allllll

AVA Girls- ( might seem biased but its the truth) Girls Ripped a new one in to the comp. All girls were ripping through the set as if it was a walk through the park stamina was amazing. Set was clean only one mistake i cought was blue jordi dj starting early on kunde. As for the rest i will let my video speak for itself. Gurpreet Pannu bad assssss dholi

TAG - Fast set. Formations were crazy but hard to understand. REally clean performance. Two girls bumped in the begining, Yellow vardi didnt do the chukeri also went off beat for mirza, Green vardi got up to early from a squat but all minor mistakes. Still legit performance. looking foward to seeing u guys again :) keep it up

Bankian Naaran - Mad messy

Live Category

Gajde Gabroo- Good team. I was really surprised with their set wasnt expecting them to be taht good. Big ups to Anooj for stepping and holding it down for his team and Rohit bro get well soon ur a Trooper :)

Nachdi Jawani- Ill set, jhummar deadly. So clean. only thing i didnt like was red jordi lipping the boliyan :S. DHOLI wow Wow WOW :|

PPA- Sickest team of the night just perfection at its finest. I think your guys speed was proper :) Did not faha bad any of the actions. legit legit legit legit :) NANA, Surmeet, Benny, And Gifty you guys are sooooo damn sick :)

MAD - Horrible :| Dancers were off beat for alot of the performance :| dholi was good though

Kohinoor- Hella Clean and really folk. The band was killer :) ( I played chimta :$ ) the tumbi guy was next level, singer amazing, and dholi was sick too

SGPD- missed it

HPD- missed it

I would place the live category in the following manner:
1. Nachdi Jawani
2. PPA
3. Kohinoor

PPA deserved a higher placing than third however i think they didn't quite entertain me as much as Nachdi Jawani did. Note: I'm only judging by watching videos

having watched the entire live segment...i would say kohinoor getting first is not shockiing at all. ill say for myself that during their entire performance (and maybe through a portion of nachdi jawani's) i had a constant, dumb smile on my face. kohinoor presented to me exactly what i would expect from an india team TODAY, similarly with nachdi jawani. they were able to mix in all the folk elements that go into live bhangra and the same time add the proper amount of innovativeness. PPA was hella clean and had amazing choreo, but personally, i felt the only reason they placed behind kohinoor and NJ was because they didn't really bring anything as new to the table as the other two teams. i saw the same old moves that i would see from past live routines with a little bit of VA flare added in ( if u guys get what im saying).

i was actually surprised with kohinoor taking first over NJ solely because they messed up their jumps in their ending segment.
