Dear Bhangra Lovers,
We're making big changes at VIBC. After 7 years of producing an annual festival and one of North America's pre-eminent Bhangra Competitions, we are going into year 8 with a total reboot of our organization. We are expanding our program and shaking things up once again. ;D
So, in 2012, there will be no Bhangra Competition.
What you will see at the City of Bhangra festival are over 14 independent events being produced over a 10-day period in two cities. For the first time ever, our annual festival will launch in the city of Surrey, BC, and culminate in a 2-day, outdoor extravaganza called "Downtown Bhangra" in the heart of Vancouver. We will still be hosting the top Bhangra teams from North America and beyond, as well as musical talent from four corners of the earth. In lieu of prize money, we will be offering travel bursaries to qualified teams. Instead of rankings of 1st or 3rd place, there will be a "people’s choice award" or a "best of show" recognition. We will be presenting the same calibre of talent our audiences have come to expect and the focus will finally be on the message of the entire City of Bhangra festival.
In 2012, the City of Bhangra festival will take place from May 31st to June 10th. We look forward to performers from far and wide descending upon our festival, to take advantage of the events, the conferences, and the performance opportunities.
