If my team didn't win my parents considered it a waste of time, so I used to tell them we placed 2nd or 1st all the time...they think AEG has a bank account filled with money...little do they know that we owe SLJ madd money son.

i get the same thing. "NO more bhangra, ajj tho badh thera bhangra bandh, no more bhangra fullstop. Suni meri gall?" LOL. There usually a way to talk around it though so its all good.

Man I got my ass kicked cos Im so addicted to bhangra. Basically I had parents evening last week before I went to Spain and I got really bad grades and my parents knew it was because of BTF and Bhangra, I shouldn't be on this

I get the usual. It's just that they didn't stop when I placed in my first comp (the only comp I've gone to so far). It actually got worse cuz my parents ain't used to me being away for a few days with people like 10-15 years older than I am. The study excuse is used a lot, and like everyone my parents aren't serious.

the best one was i was complaining about judging at csun and my dad was like you know whats one way to resolve your problems...just quit bhangra, then you could get a job.

" All you do is take our money, dance, and come home with empty hands and pockets. Its the recession and your bhangra is making us go into depression! " :'(

in Punjabi/Hindi HAHA! ;D
LOL! Yo, that's funny veera.

I'm done with school, so it got changed from the typical "bhangra less, study more" to... comparing me with every other kid they know around my age who is more "successful" already. ::) lol. Then being like "see, if you focused more in school, you could have been like them"

Pshhhh.. that shiat irritates me, but I know tons of "bad" things those "successful" kids are/were involved in while I was simply trying to learn/stay in touch with my culture.

hahahaha...such a funny topic! it seems like our parents get together and plan out the discouraging dialogues! LOL...

At my house, everytime i mention theword BHANGRA (which is a lot),i just get the eyeroll from mom and a "tu taa bas BHANGRE di hi reh gayi !!!" LOL...

Everytime im using my laptop, the 'rents automatically assume im watching bhangra performances rather than doing homework haha!!!

I love this topic!! I thought I was the only one haha!

I get the usual.. school..study.. family.. etc.. lol love the "aaj toh tera bhangra finish"! Some more harsh ones -I get the "you guys can't even win in your own city, why are you bothering to go out of town?".. lovely words of encouragement there..also "this isn't a hotel where you can just go to practices, come back and sleep..you need to spend some time with the family... now go clean your room". My mom absolutely hated it when I used to coach the ND girls on top of going to my own practices (that was when I got the hotel comment.. but to be fair I had three seperate dance practices at that time multiple times a week) and I'd respond with "It's my last year!!" (every year).

One thing I've never really had a problem with is being on a coed team.. that's never been an issue with my parents, thankfully (well sometimes my dad --> he always asks the "how did you come home" question and then I have a mini freak out/meltdown n mumble "I got dropped off" but so far he hasn't said anything in response to that :-\) But gotta give props to my mom for staying up super late all the time and helping sew kadai on vests, lungia, salwars, chunnia.. not just mine but my two sisters as well :-*!

:-\ maybe i'm the only one... but my parents actually like the idea of me being on a bhangra team... they don't really get why i do it but they like it... whenever aunties and uncles come over they use me as entertainment and are like "dance for them... show them bhangra" ;D lol
