hey all, just wanted to let the BTF community know about a competition that my team GU Jawani will be competing at, being held at UW-Madison this weekend (Feb 25th) called Aa Dekhen Zara 2012...it's a newer competition and I don't think it's on the CTL or been posted about yet.

the committee has been very accommodating and easy to work with thus far, and I think comps like this are a great option for teams trying to get involved with the bhangra circuit...or maybe even established teams looking for new places to perform.

their website is aadekhenzara.weebly.com, seems like the venue is sick too!

the bhangra category line-up is:

- GU Jawani
- Northwestern Bhangra
- Purdue Di Shaan
- GW Bhangra (may have dropped?)

Hey everyone,

My name's Aman Shahi, I'm one of the Co-Captains of GU Jawani (along with Arnab who posted earlier). We had a great time at the competition this weekend, thanks to University of Wisconsin's ISA for putting it all together. Our liaisons were very accommodating and the hotel we were staying at was incredible. Never made it out to the after party because it was at capacity, so we definitely wish that we had had the chance to chill with the other teams more. Things ran pretty smoothly with the exception of an awkward moment during the placings where we thought we had won the Bhangra category...haha. Shout out to Northwestern Bhangra for a well-deserved First place and for hanging out with us at Einstein Bagels the morning after, looking forward to seeing you guys at comps in the future!

Here's a link to a video of our performance: GU Jawani - Aa Dekhen Zara 2012

Thanks,
Aman

Echoing what Aman said, we had a pretty solid time throughout the weekend. Being split up between two hotels and the after party having a capacity of about 13 people made it hard to hang out with other teams, which is something I look forward to most about competitions. Being in close proximity to the venue and other spaces was extremely helpful, at least for the hotel we stayed at. No judges meeting combined with being rushed out of the venue was frustrating, though.

The only bhangra I got to see was part of GU's performance, and for both Aman and Arnab, major props to you guys for captain-ing a 20 person college, co-ed team. We have a hard enough time coordinating the 14 of us, and I'm so impressed with what you guys do. And I really appreciate Arnab making a point with me to get the teams to hang out for a little, even if it was at Einsteins for 20 minutes. Shout outs to all of you guys on Jawani and Sumi on WashU for holding it down on two sick dance teams. Definitely hope to see you guys around.

The competition has a lot of potential, so definitely don't let it go under the radar in the future.
