Winner of category: UNC Bhangra Elite
Exhibition: Gamecock Bhangra. This team was not traditional. You can clearly see that they were a first year team. However, they did seem to be having a lot of fun out there. They had good crowd support. Their ending was sunny browns "picture perfect", where they pulled out cameras and took pictures of the audience. I found it a little odd.
Duke Dhamaka - Yet another modern team. They had flashy big lettered boards. Lacked energy in comparison to past performances. I sort of felt Deja vu watching their performance because some of the choreo has been seen in other teams' performances. Their intro video was hilarious though. Strong point was their coordination. They used props too. They spelled out Duke in their formations as a person said D U K E sort of like what VCU did at Blowout last year.
UNC Bhangra Elite - They had a creative theme involving a struggle between Harry Potter and Voldemort. You don't often see a traditional team with a theme, but BE pulled it off. They had a lot of cool gimmicks like throwing a girl in the air as voldemort comes out. The beginning mela involved Harry walking around and unfreezing jodis. They integrated traditional moves very well. Saaps part was amazing. Death eater masks were used at the end. They had great nakhre, especially the Asian Jodi in the red and yellow. The jhummar was absolute fire. Lehriya was cool too. Creative formations and consistently high energy. The clear winner in this category.
Hopkins Hareepa - A modern bhangra team once again. Their mix was good, but they were sloppy in general. A guys necklace broke on stage and beads went everywhere. A guys pugh was falling off, and he walked off stage and then THREW IT. He walked all the way there, might as well have put it down gently with respect. Good nakhre ( facial expressions). I'd suggest taking the traditional route with moves.
Lomaticc and Sunny Brown - Awful live performers. Great songs, but a lot of people just sat in their seats for most of it.
