AEG FRONT HD VIDEO Nov 12th

This is a perfect performance for Boston, it was a gimmick heavy routine that didn't focus on technical dancing ability (which I felt was lacking). But I think Boston has always been a competition that stressed the gimmicks over dancing anyway, so it worked out nicely. This is the type of performance that can win a lot of "modern" style competitions.

This is definately much cleaner routine from Burgh and the added gimmick definately won the competition for you guys. Keep up the good work and it seems like you got US East on the lock for Elite 8. Congrats on 1st place :)

Some actual constructive criticism (I'll keep it brief):

When you strip this routine of the gimmicks (the primary focus of this dance), its very average....and there is a lot to work on. The choreography (actual dancing, NOT gimmicks) was rather mundane, and served as a sidekick to your gimmicks (which should NEVER be the case in any first place routine, I don't care what the competition weighs heavily). The execution of simple steps needed to be cleaner, and many of the dancers should work on being more technically sound. It's impossible for a team to really succeed stylistically if these factors are lacking.

You may very well go to Elite 8 this year based on placings, but in my view a lot of hard work needs to be put in both individually and as a team in order to have success in that competition.

If you have any other questions or want further details, don't hesitate to PM me.

it's so easy to say that the dancing was a sidekick to the gimmicks...how do you make dancing first? Just don't do gimmicks? Only do like 2? or does this "empty" sounding advice really just mean, "gimmicks don't belong in bhangra, blah blah blah?" Just curious...

this set was murder. i watched it from 10 rows away and i couldnt even tell it was navi. She was definitely the MVP of the night. sicccckkk performance. You guys got a lot cleaner from last week's burgh performance.

I think you "make dancing first" by focusing on improving the technical dancing ability of the guys on the team. Many of the dancers seemed uncomfortable and were not finishing their moves. A team like NYPD has gimmicks in their routine (gimmicks everyone remembers) but their dancing can stand on its own. What I mean by that is if you took the gimmick out of their routine they are still sound dancers. The gimmick is not the center-piece of their routine, their dancing is.

After watching this routine I cannot remember a dancing segment that especially impressed me. It wasn't as if it was terrible dancing, it just doesn't stand out. What does stand out is the gimmick with the girl and the team jumping into the crowd. That works well for a competition like Boston against similar teams (like Empire & APD) but I think this routine does not stand a chance against teams that focus more on dancing.

1. Harman expounded accurately on my point about your choreo being a sidekick to the gimmicks

2. @amancheema and faizan- I never said and definitely didn't mean don't have ANY gimmicks, There's nothing wrong with having gimmicks, especially if that competition puts more emphasis on it. But that's not your problem. In any first place or "elite" routine, the gimmicks should serve to enhance "everything else" (DANCING choreography, individual and team execution of steps, formations etc). In your case, "everything else" was not up to par/needs some work and that is why the gimmicks ended up actually overshadowing instead of enhancing.

+1....They had a great jaw dropping performance and energy but actual dancing can be cleaner

Thank You all for the critique and comments. Hope you all enjoyed our performance as much as we did performing. Sorry the video got taken off - hopefully in the future BBC will allow us to post it?

However coming back to the whole dancing comments- The difference is that we aren't NYPD, SGPD, or HPD. We do what we do best and if that means cool gimmicks then.. i guess so be it. AEG will continue to do what it does best and be AEG. We are always looking to improve and become a better team but not by taking away from our own image. With that being said... keep the constructive criticism coming and look forward to the mix being posted soon! Thanks =)

Grrrr why does BBC have to keep taking down the links? If you're going to try to invoke copyright violations for vids taken at your comp (at least a bit dubious in the first place), then at least post your videos up.

Is it the competition or the sponsor that is enforcing videos to not be up? I think the competition organizors are acting on behalf of the sponsor to remove links. BBC should get a different sponsor if that's the case. It's pretty stupid for them to attempt to restrict videos from being posted by people that paid money to attend their show. Also, it's funny because a few months down the road, there will be videos posted on youtube anyway and nobody will care. Take for example Boston Bhangra 2010.. there are videos posted from then and nobody even cares now (but last year BBC was being a nazi about every video that went up).

^^ Thats why I encourage everyone to just download the video (an easy method is to use www.keepvid.com) once it goes up on youtube or anywhere else. Then the competition people can do whatever they want, but you'll have a copy of the video saved on your hard drive which they can't do anything about.

Also, I'm not a fan of teams who don't want their videos posted (unless there is a legitimate reason, i.e. there is another competition in less than a month where they will be using the same routine). Then the team should come out and say don't post our video yet, we'll put it up for everyone after XXXXX competition.

If the next competition is like 2 months+ away, change your shit up and bring something unique! There is no excuse a team can give if they have ample time to change up their coreography or gimicks SLIGHTLY to provide entertainment for the next audience they will be performing for. If you don't want your performance to be recorded and shared, don't perform in front of the public, simple as that.

Trust me, if I wasn't so nice, I would just download every team's video myself and host it via personal FTP so no competition or team could do anything about it.

Let's move back to the old days when nobody cared about videos being put up online. Does anyone remember the last time you saw members of powerhouse teams like KJ, Gabroo Shokeen, LBC, etc requesting their videos to NOT be posted online? Yeah, that's what I thought.

~ Basim :)
