Hey y'all!
This is our performance from this past weekend in California! We had a blast on stage and would love to hear all of the critiques/comments.

Huge shoutout to the notorious committee for showing us a great time, Baljot for tying my team's paghan last minute, shout outs to Cal Bhangra Alumni for letting us borrow your saaps, Royal Bhangra Girls for letting us borrow a kato, Rangla Punjab for your chimta, Harjot for capturing this memory for us and our amazing liaisons (Afsheen and Anveer) for making our weekend so much fun.

First off, congrats on 2nd Place! There were many parts of this set that I really enjoyed, especially khunde. But i'll start with the critiques:


- First off, the turla on the green guy was incredibly distracting throughout the performance. I'm not sure if this is something you've talked about as a team, but in my experience staying on stage is more detrimental to the performance than leaving stage and tucking the side of that turla back in. I saw multiple points where the green guy could've gotten off to the side of the stage and had someone tuck it in and be back on stage in a matter of 15 seconds. The fact that that didn't happen was a little frustrating and is probably something you want to talk to your dancers about. On a sidenote, i didn't like the style of the turley (how short and wide they were) and maybe that contributed to the cloth coming untucked, i'm not sure.

- While the khunde segment was entertaining, it recycled moves from past routines that i've seen (I think UVa did that exact same flip to behind the back khunde chaal and numerous teams have done khunde spins). Putting a little twist on those tricks would be refreshing and more exciting.


- Red guy barely got his feet off the ground for the jumps in your finale segment and was looking pretty gassed throughout the entire second half of the routine. He's the only one that really stood out for an extended period of time, but other dancers were noticeably tired as well.


- To go along with energy/stamina, it was apparent when dancers were tired because faces dropped and nakhra became virtually non existent. I like to see dancers having the time of their lives on stage and performing the hell of the routine, regardless of how much their legs hurt.

On a more positive note, I thought the girls in general performed at a higher level than the guys so respect on that. More specifically, I thought the blue girl was the best dancer/performer on stage. High energy throughout, good form, modhey and nakhra. If every dancer on the team strives for that, i think you guys can take on any competition. Yellow girl was also smiling the entire performance, which was awesome. I thought the melas were nice and the jodi interaction during jhoomer was really well done, though it could have been smoother as a whole. Stage movement was pretty solid throughout (though the formations themselves were nothing out of the ordinary) and i really liked the mix, sounded really smooth.


Anyway, congrats again! I think you guys have all the right pieces to be really really good. Good luck in the future!

 

[The Honest Truth]

Not bad. You guys are on the right path if anything. My main critique for you guys is to try to establish yourselves by making your own identity instead of coming off as "just another Co-ed team". There's tons of ways to do this. Think Cal and Cornell, 2 Co-ed teams who've established themselves through there own unique styles and ways. All in all, good set and congrats on 2nd.
