I was wondering if everyone with a background in engineering can introduce themselves and also those who are in school studying Engineering can introduce themselves. Thank You.

I'll start with myself, I am Manjot Singh. I recently graduated with my degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Riverside.

Very cool. My nanaji tried to convince me to live in India and attend Thapar but I realized I would never actually study if I moved to India.

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering @ Cornell University.

I originally planned on getting an MEng or MS, but found that I enjoy high-level management of engineering projects, or you could say the intersection of business and engineering. So I am starting my MBA this fall.

That's exactly what I want to do
I'm getting my BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Florida and hopefully going for an MBA in a few years.

wow, i want to be an engineer, but really cant decide which one to do, like bio, chemical, civil, etc :/ in your guys' perspectives, how is it being an engineer, the job, the work, the pay?

Raj I think it's important to take introductory courses in fields youre interested in to see if you want to study this further. Read the course descriptions for some of the upper level courses in each department and see if anything interests you.

Personally, I realized I did not want to do the standard engineer work (technical work, low-level-- as in very close to the project details). So I went into Project Management, which keeps a technical background to your work, but focuses on the business and project aspect, rather than the nuts and bolts. I know a lot of engineers who enjoy their work, though. And you can advance, as you become the technical 'master' of a certain subject, you can advance on the technical side.

wow, thanks alot saleem :) my cousin just graduated at fategarh sahib university as an electrical engineer, but i think im leaning torward bio/chem engineering, numerous types of jobs, and i heard that in the upcoming years, there is going to be a big demand for engineers, ill be sure to ask you some questions if i feel lost or confused. ;D

Speaking from experience, the pay is great and the job growth is definitely there. I'm a very detailed person so i really enjoy the nuts and bolts. However, a lot of the newer generation is turning away. In reality, there are so few specialists left in the field, the entire industry is begging for newer generation to become interested. You don't have to become a manager to make money, if you become a SME, TRUST ME, you'll earn as much/if not more than managers. I'm working at Boeing, and I just attended a colleague's 12 year retirement anniversary. He retired 12 years ago, but still works 3 days a week to provide his expertise since there is no one that is capable of doing what he does. If you like technical details, you will have job security and great pay. My initial plan was to do an MBA. But now I want to become a SME and therefore doing a masters and then possibly a Phd.
