He should get the death penalty.

If you have a daughter you should treasure her more than gold.

Wow. That's really sad. Things like this happen too many times in the world...

I'm not too sure about the death penalty. From the article, it seems that his attorney may go for the mentally insane plea.

this is a shame
a girl can say NO
and if a girl says No the Imam will not carry on with the nikkah.
A women in Islam has many rights that girls do not know
this is sad.

Umm Somi, im not a muslim by ANY means, but Im pretty sure I would have to disagree with you.

Saying no has a lot more consequences then the imam stopping the ceremony. How about the reaction of the family, the forceful nature behind the agreement, the family of the groom etc...

Its not as easy as saying no, and ohhh well, lets go look for another boy. Its more a question of the culture that surrounds it. The a forcefulness that surrounds these types of engagements, so, when you undermine the women saying that its as easy as saying no, thats not the case.

Also, this shouldnt be a shock, like mentioned in the article, this is a regular occurence in Pakistan and India.

Precisely Summy, our culture is to blame for this. I think what Somi was trying say is that in Islam (if you go by the book), such an act would never be allowed and Islamic law fully allows the woman to choose and make decisions on her own. Honor killings are purely a cultural thing and are still prevalent in our homeland due to a wide variety of issues (i.e. can of worms).

Yeah I know it not easy, SOO not easy but it can be done.
maybe not at the time of the shaadi but she could have said it before...its been done
A lot does come with it, yeah i agree, but most of the things can be ignored,
dude this world is not small...if not pakistan or india go somewhere else to 'find a guy' seriously

I am up for arrange marriage, 3 of my sisters were and all my siblings are American born. My mom/aunt/elder sisters (whoever) asked my them @ the time, there were some no's before they said yes to the one...
My father is the stereotypical Muslim, white beard, strong believer, prays all 5 namaz anywhere he is, wears shalwar kamiz most of the time and goes on the Jammath
and HE even knows when his daughter says no, it is a no....he will not force anything like that on us...we are 5 girls by-the-way

but my whole point...In Islam a girl can say no, it was done back in Prophet Muhammads (pbuh) years and it can be done now. there is a Hadith on this too...a hadith is a traditional account of things said or done by Muhammad or his companions

being in this century the community/family/friends can kiss my ass... ;D

Terrible news, but it is even more sickening such a thing happens all too often.

Question for the Muslims here...and I dont mean this as any sort of sarcastic way, nor do I have any ulterior motives...but...

What do you feel about the belief that a Muslim man will be given 72 virgins upon his death if he lives righteously? Is this a passage that has been misinterpreted/mistranslated, or is it the case? And if so, do you find this to be demeaning for women to be sexualized and minimized in such a way?

Houris are mentioned in the Quran and Hadith but how many will be rewarded that is not mentioned either in The Quran or Hadith

What we know of Jannath is only from Quran and Hadith.
A hadith by Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that Prophet (PBUH) said that Allah (swa) said:
?I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen and no ear has heard, nor has it occurred to the human heart. Thus, recite if you wish, ?And no soul knows what joy has been kept hidden for them.??
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim, at-Tirmidhi, and ibn Majah, Surah Al Sajdah, 32: 17]

So how can anyone know what Jannath is until theyve been there?
Both men and women know they will be rewarded for their deeds. Whatever a man and/or a woman asks they will receive. Since as we know that everyone's desires will be fulfilled in Jannath I dont see what the big deal is about
