im really getting sick of manak-e and RDB especially. at bruin they were up there for sooo long. It was gettign pretty annoying. As performers they suck. Most of their music sucks. What the hell! Get manmohan waris up there! Get sarbjit cheema! I remember kam bhamrah at boston 2006, the guy was forgetting his lines!!!! Get somebody like heera group or apna sangeet! somebody old school whose music rocked receptions and everybody knew

Having an artist is always a fun way to end a competition... but i think it is also important to keep bringing fresh artists consistently, not the same old ones as mentioned by others .. rdb.. manake.. bikram singh... etc. etc. no offense to them. Bhangra fusion brought d live band whose lead singer is united bhangra's singer.... i forgot the band's name.. they were hot... and very fresh. their live band is just awesome.

A bhangra competition with Jazzy b? definitely gonna b a sold out show.. Zee bhangra was always a sold out .. wonder what made them go bankrupt n stop.

One thing to keep in mind guys, from an organizer/team perspective, the organizer never make back the money that they put into an artist for these shows. You can ask just about any promoter who hosts these shows and they will tell you the same. Artists charge WAY too much money for them to be a good investment at shows financially. However, organizers get them to change up the pace of the show for both the teams and the audience. It also adds a bit more hype to the competition when there is an artist there. It's very tough in the market the way it is to get top notch names because they are ridiculously expensive. From a teams perspective, I always find it fun to see artists at the end of the night. Just chill and relaxing. However, at the same time, organizers should try to find a happy medium between providing to the teams and getting artists.

The whole event is for entertainment, teams are there to entertain the city as well.
I agree that having a good artist is to attract people. having a good turnout is success, i assume.

Yeah I agree, and even though it sounds weird, I would definitely be up for someone like Raju Johal or any other good live singer who could come and perform. They may not be popular artists like Malkit, RDB, etc. but they're still pretty damn good and you at least know that they can sing well enough on stage to entertain. Didn't Raju sing at Bhangra Bash? How was that?

EDIT: Anyway, it beats having an artist like RDB come and either try to sing live and not do so well or come and lip sync and it beats paying for tons of money for a really good, popular singer like Gurdas Mann perform.

As far as lip synching is concerned I think artists perform based on how much the competitions pay them. I believe they have different pricing levels, lip synch or live, solo or with band...etc. etc. Most competitions are cheap (surprised?) and just go with the lip synching package to save money. They just assume that just because the artist is there, people will show up, they don't care about the quality.

I remember the audience wanted Raju to sing more than Jassi Sidhu. Jassi was just...i don't know what the hell he was doing the entire time. Raju was far more important that night. It was like everyone was there to see Raju, not Jassi Sidhu.

Jassi Sidhu is also a little bitch, he's not entertaining at all.

I'm surprised to see that people think Pammi Bai is inaccessible. He handles all of his concerts on his own and is extremely nice. I met with him at his kothi in Patiala and not only was he extremely hospitable but he was SO SO knowledgeable about Punjabi folk culture. Of all the artists out there, I would say that he is the MOST involved in promoting Punjabi culture in India.

If a competition is seriously interested in bringing him, I have his business card and can put you in touch.

Then...let's make it happen! Hell, I'd just hire the United Bhangra Band...they're solid. Good singer and everything...
