Brother it's not always mainstream media, you have to understand the media gives us what we WANT to see.Meistro said:I feel like the mainstream american media has really destroyed the way the world views religions. Theres no respect anymore. Just off the top of my head, I can think of, Jesus, Mary, Budha, Hindu religious figures, who basically have corrupted images because of stupid novelties with "jesus is my homeboy" written on them. Comical movies making fun of Jesus. Rama on flip flops. Budha, being some fat/happy figure with no significance to spirituality. Now its Baba Deep Singh Ji. Whats next? The sikh gurus? Religion isnt seen the same way it was before. Now people question it and feel that it can also be made a mockery of.
Well not really, it's always been like this. Why do you think there are so many variations of Christianity? Why do you think Martin Luther had so many complaints? People have always been demoralizing religions, and then new ones spring up, and then later on, they too are debased and degraded, and then new ones again spring up. Sikhism was somewhat founded on fighting for justice against Mughals, who had completely corrupted Islam by trying to forcefully convert others through violence. The loss of religious understanding is really nothing new.Meistro said:Religion isnt seen the same way it was before.
Thanks yaar. I am not a history major, I just read a lot of history books. Punjabi history, North Indian history, Islamic history are my main areas of interest recently.justAguy said:ComtondaJatt, your comments are always very insightful, are you a history major?
Meistro, yours as well![]()
I get what you are saying about crudely mocking religions but why is people questioning religion a bad thing?Meistro said:Religion isnt seen the same way it was before. Now people question it and feel that it can also be made a mockery of.
Def. +1 on that one. I've been trying to spread that philosophy for years...I've lived by it since my teens, when I first learned about Sikhi and other religions thereafter. Nevertheless, justAguy, you do make a good point..I guess now its just waiting and seeing whether the world falls short or actually begins to bring itself to understanding each other...With Religion, as with everything else, Time will telljustAguy said:The essence of every religion is exactly the same. If you study the world religions enough you will come to a point where you realize, they are exactly the same. Peace, love, humility, divinity. Be loving and help others, don't do bad things, don’t be a slave to your physical indulgences, find the power within yourself that manifests the universe (God), and you will eventually be free of your body. Yet these same ideologies have been carried for so long that nobody understands them anymore. A true Sikh is a true Jew who is a true Christian who is a true Buddhist who is a true Muslim. The differences are artificial, and the titles are man made.
