Okay, so I was gonna ask this in the last NBA post...but this needs a topic of its own.

Who do you guys think is the best current NBA player right now?
I think Kobe is overrated, but I am unsure of who I think is the best right now.
Any thoughts? and why?

Kobe is not overrated...the man is a constant threat on both sides of the floor...defenses must build their strategy solely around him (before Pau Gasol)..now both of them are a nightmare...the man can run the score up whenever he chooses...I just can't think of a single player that played better than him this past season...he was just incredible...there are many that have some sort of built up vendetta against Kobe and I am please advising all of you to push that bias aside and look at him solely from a basketball point of view....I just can't think of anyone else...I'm sure I might be overlooking someone though.

Ranjit- Why Rodney?
because i am an unbiased piston fan..

seriously though, he obviously isn't the best best current NBA player but he is an emerging all-star and will be a force to reckon with for years to come

Agree with Jeeti, Kobe Bryant is the man, that guy is unstoppable.
Also Allen Iverson is up there too, guy can run the court and has eyes
on the back of his head.

yes mandeep! Iverson is one of my favorite players of all time. I really wish he was on a better team..do u think he will ever get a ring? He does deserve one.

i hate to say it but it is kobe not only is he an unstoppable scorer but an amazing defender as well

after him in no particular order id say:
chris paul - triple-double threat every night the second coming of jason kidd
kevin garnett - best defender and rebounder in the league over last few years and scores about 20 every night...and hes got a ring now
tim duncan - 3 time champ and MVP trophies to boot
dwight howard - beast, the closest thing to Shaq in his prime the league has right now
lebron james - inconsistent shooter, average defender at best, but can take over the game and a consistent triple-double threat

Kobe is hands down the best player in the world. There is no one in the same league as him when it comes to taking over games the way he does. The Lakers without Kobe are a sub .500 team, with Kobe they are the best in the west...

Coming in second, I would have to go with Lebron.

Coming in third Baron Davis...

Do you really think the lakers are the best in the west? they suffered a horrible lost this past season to the celtics..and will they overcome the blazers, rockets, perhaps the clippers?

i dont think the lakers should have any problems in the west. With Bynum coming back Healthy ..he'll be a beast in the middle...they got the tallest front court in the NBA... not to forget the best player in the NBA (Kobe Bryant) and a great leader on and off the court Derek Fisher...They'll be alright

They may be good in the west, do you think they will take the championship next year? or will the celtics win? rockets, hornets, blazers are also good contenders

any predictions for miami, chicago and the spurs?

i think the lakers will win it all next season....Cletics just lost their best defender (James Posey) other then Garnett in my opinion...miami and chicago will do some damage in the east but not contenders just yet.. spurs are aged cant run with the young teams liek the hornets, lakers, portland

Yep, losing posey was a bad choice. I still think some of the younger players on the celtics are getting better and I think the draft pick JR giddens is going to contribute alot. At the end, it's about how bad you want it and I think they will only be better next year. Good for the hornets though..I don't know if the lakers will be able to win it all, even with Bynum. Too much competition and up and coming players this season. Gonna be a good one though.

yea def. it should be a good season for the west and in the east wid miami chicago raptors improving....but i still think the lakers r the team to beat in the west. i think kobe is more hungry then ever to get another ring...did you guys hear paul peirce saying "Kobe is not the best player in the NBA I'am" ...that should be good enought to motivate Kobe even more to beat Cletics in the finlas and get his ring over Peirce
