yep this is ALL about cost. That quality of EL wire, plus the sequencer is just ridiculously expensive. Once you have the equipment I don't see this being that hard to do.

Also people who were commenting that it's not that cool if a bhangra team does it since it's copied from YouTube...where do you think 95% of bhangra gimmicks come from? Hate to say it but most of them are NOT that original, and are copied from dance shows on TV or vids on YouTube like this.

It's a lot harder than it looks.

For me, it depends on the gimmick. If the gimmick is lame to begin with, then I'm not going to be impressed when it's copied. If the gimmick is AMAZING and requires actual skill/coordination, then mimmicking it will-at very least-be impressive. Maybe I won't be as amazed as the original, but I'll still be very impressed by the skill and coordination.

To be brutally honest, most of the audience at competitions doesn't have time to sit there on youtube and watch video after video after video after video, much less even know what BTF is. Whatever they stumble upon, they watch. So if any team-a year from now-puts this on stage, it's fairly likely that a large amount of the audience will see this for the first time. Will it be worth it? Absolutely.

Definitely not trying to undermine the difficulty here, just agreeing with Harman that the cost far outweigh the time you'd actually need to put into it. Once you buy the proper EL Wire and corresponding sequencer, the majority of your time spent would be with the sequencer to time it accurately with music cues. The rest is straightforward.
