Bhangra and basketball

Yooo,

I was checking out posts/folks here on BTF that are basketball fans/players. I'm from the East Coast (NC State) and was wondering if people would be interested in a sort of bhangra-team-basketball tournament. Just a weekend for teams/friends to come hoop in the day, party at night, and turn it into a tournament weekend as opposed to a competition. I know that spring semester is usually packed with performances and competitions for many teams, but this may be a good way to make some money for the team or just have a fun weekend. I am willing to try to organize something like this if enough teams are interested....any takers?

What about during this upcoming semester? maybe towards the beginning of the semester OR pair the basketball tournament with a competition...I'm at NC State, which holds Virsa Punjab Da, what if there was a basketball tournament saturday/sunday, and the competition saturday night...I think there is something like this in Ohio State...Buckeye Mela maybe?

Any input would be great, I would like to throw this sometime this semester as opposed to the summer...too much stuff goin on haha

hahaha tourny saturday and sunday and the show saturday night? hahah saturday would be horrible cuz of rehearsals and stuff and preps for the show.....what you can do is have the mixer friday night, the show saturday....and have the tourney sunday afternoon (allowing teams to recover from previous night's ahem activities).....

What about this...if I threw a basketball tournament in collaboration with a competition. Have the round robin games of the tournament on friday night (2 games per team). Then Saturday is rehearsals/show/afterparty, then sunday is the playoffs for the basketball tournament. That way if a couple dancers wanna hoop, its possible for them to pull it off if they can handle it, and if bhangra teams want to bring their boys, it would be a fun weekend/bring crowd support for each team....more input would be appreciated folks...I wanna make this happen...

I say you keep basketball for the sunday.....people can get hurt (ankle injury, etc.)....jeopardizing months of practice for the comp....speaking from experience and it suckssss....its a risk....if they get hurt on sunday, it wont matter haha

Sweet!! Elite 8 weekend? That would be perfect, the majority of the bhangra world is going anyway. Are you looking at only basketball or maybe throw in a little pigskin or volleyball?

And ladies if there's enough interest we could maybe do a female bracket too?

Haha I like it..sounds like folks would be down...next question...what do yall think the best weekend for this tournament would be? Blowout/VPD/maybe just a random weekend where this is no competition?
