yes, they did initially want a live team although we were told to keep the overture under wraps and private. security and privacy was unbelievably important to the individual we spoke to.
You guys were asked? Crazy! Did all of you as a team decide that you oppose the views of the president and you all didn't want to go?...I find it hard to believe that everyone of you disagrees with his policies and would decline the invite...(I mean it could be true but just asking.)

If the organizers were seriously considering it, then, I'll be honest, you guys let me down. It would have been great to showcase PDDS clean style up there, for elite politicians to see...that not all of being an American means to assimilate, to create fusion. That we can still hold on to our individual identities as traditional Sikhs, Punjabis, etc while still being whole heartedly American.

Resigning from this challenge and opportunity over political differences is not smart. Its sad, its the dominant culture now. Instead of different people working together, people like Sarah Palin and Lou Dobbs have made it a trend to be a "rogue" than to man up and face dilemmas.

simply put, we were unwilling to compromise our morals and principles in regards to the United States Government and its involvement overseas and the United States' relation with India, particularly Punjab's farming crisis.

I'm on vacation right now, but this statment warranted a response... This is the most obsurd statement ever made in the history of POL/BTF ever... You just passed up the opportunity to perform the dance that you love in front of the most powerful man in the planet and Manmohan Singh... This was Obama's first state dinner and it was with India... This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and you idiots passed it up... Wow, there are no words to describe how stupid you are...

Hey Vick,

It was a joke, we were never invited. But first, learn a little English. It is “absurd” not “obsurd” you [Content Removed]

Second, the hatred you have for Detroit is getting a little ridiculous. To call everyone from Detroit filth is one of the stupidest things I have heard and you are quite possibly the biggest buffoon on this forum. Obama represents South Side Chicago which is one of most crime ridden and impoverished places in America. Not everyone has the elitist and ignorant mentality you do.

I thought it was obvious I was kidding but relax everyone. [Content Removed]

Vick, you may continue with acting like you are "keeping it real" and "aren't afraid of speaking the truth" in a sad attempt to be controversial. But from a guy who knows absolutely nothing about bhangra, about the Punjabi culture and about any social issue, I think your participation in this forum is limited to being a train wreck of epic proportions.

you guys need to chill

I know this comes late but better late than never....Congrats Empire on being asked to represent North America's bhangra community on an international stage! It's a huge accomplishment and a compliment to everyone in the community who has helped make bhangra more mainstream. Can't wait to see the performance!

Bharathi =)
