I would rather see some local talent that does not get as much exposure as the bigger names. Rochester, TAG, Binghamton Bhangra to name a few...
;)

MARCH 27 please

and anyways...its called bhangra BLIZZARD chances of snow in march are higher than april ;)...you have to consider these things jeez

Ditto. Wrapping up loose ends from Allstars should be a priority over any future competitions. I don't believe anyone has been reimbursed from Allstars and it's been 3 months.

Teams' prize money and judges' expenses, both, please.

do it april 3!!

actualllyy the smarter thing would be to WAIT - and to do it in the fall. theres not many comps in the fall compared to the spring. you can help bring it back for the fall which would be a lotttt better. some great teams dont even compete first semester :/ unless its justtt boston bhangra.

do it in the fall...pay all the teams/judges for allstars - b/c doing blizzard also means you have 2 competitions' worth of money to pay whcih is a shittt loaddd

at least this way you can catch up on all stars and then prepare even better for blizzard! i know its tough to postpone, but honestly it could be the smart thing to do :)

Isn't there a contractual obligation for the guy to pay the winners? So now you should be able to sue and collect interest as well right?

No. Registration packets are the only signed contracts and I have yet to see a competition agree to a pay winning teams in a timely manner on a signed form. If anything, competitions state they have the right to make additions or change the terms of the registration contract as they please.

Anil has been one of the few competition organizers that have stayed close to the bhangra teams circuit and made attempts to learn from his mistakes and improve his competitions. I am 100% sure that Anil will pay each team out and compensate the judges before making another investment in another competition. :)

Contrary to popular belief, a contract does not have to be signed in order to be enforceable. Furthermore, a contract does not have to be in writing unless it is one stipulated by the uniform commercial code. Contracts in that context are for commercial trade (a bhangra competition is not commercial)...therefore, an oral contract, or a contract implied by law can quite easily be enforced in the context of a bhangra competition. §90 of restatement 2d of contracts has a provision that grants damages to those individuals who have "reasonably relied" upon an oral contract, even if it was not made in the traditional written form.

Bottom line

1. this was an implied oral contract
2. teams like mine relied upon it, aka, we made purchases/travel accommodations with the hope that we would be paid in a reasonable amount of time. Through the use of an expert (probably a judge who has danced on the circuit) we can establish that the amount of time taken thus far is not reasonable.
3. We have a viable case.

While competitions reserve the right to make additions or change the terms of the registration contract as the please, they may not do it ex post facto (after the fact)...so that reservation clause does nothing...

I am 100% sure that Anil will pay each team out and compensate the judges before making another investment in another competition.

Two years later and already that law education is already coming in handy. God I love having a best friend who's gunna be a lawyer.

Not to mention that by accepting your registration money, the competition solidified the oral contract and the implicit expectations of the teams.

SWI, totally awesome point...offer (the application) acceptance (accepting our money) Consideration (performing on stage)...all three key elements of a contract...
