Edit* I didn't realize the comments above were so old, my bad for bringing the issue back up
I feel like blowout isn't at DAR anymore because people don't really go to blowout anymore. Back in the day blowout was one of the only competitions on the east coast (that and basically having the same lineup for 4-6 years straight). Now with tons of comps the charm of blowout is lost and people (like my parents who perfered going to burgh or fusion over the past 4 years) don't travel for the show. So a smaller audience can fit in a smaller auditorium which probably costs less to rent thus more money goes to charity. Bbs goal is to host a fun event and raise money, not to give dancers the biggest freaking stage possible with wild ass lighting.
In my opinion burgh now is what blowout used to be. Burgh has the most easily recognizable stage on the circuit (in a beautiful auditorium that seats 1700 I think) , the show has been sold out every year, some of the best college teams attend, its a charity event, and its backed by a huge university. Both comps are known for their strong operations and organization, but to me "burgh is the new blowout".
The show will def still be a huge success, and good luck to all the teams applying. Regardless of how blowout sizes up to what it used to be, it should always be the goal of a college team to attend and win blowout.
