Hi Riya!

I totally get where you are coming from with that question. First of all, you are doing the right thing and have signed up to use BTF - this site allows the competition committees to post information about the competition here first. Second, you may not receive information on what comp is smaller or a 'tier 2' comp explicitly on here. My suggestion would be to go to a fusion comp. These competitions have a couple categories usually bhangra, bollywood, and/or raas. They tend to be a bit less cut-throat and may give your team some confidence! After all, everyone loves bhangra. If you have a new team or are just exploring your team's style and how it fits into the circuit, this would not be a bad place to start!

I know Aa Dekhe Zara is coming up at UW Madison (link is on the main forum) and you can still apply.

Again these are my own personal opinions. Good luck :)

Great advice Upahvan!

Welcome to BTF riya. In addition to competitions, perhaps see if your team can get some stage time at local talent shows, fundraisers, charity events, etc. Building up that confidence, testing our your team's endurance, and recording your team's performance can go a long way.

Anyway, I'm not too familiar with competitions (besides Motor City) in the general area you're in, but I'll pass along any info if it comes to me.

I agree with Upahvan, fusion comps might be the best bet for a team just starting off. Aa Dekhen Zara is a great competition - I've attended the last two years and its very well run and the judging panel last year was one of the better ones I've seen at a fusion competition. I would definitely look into applying!

PCS Chicago was a popular, emerging comp these past 2 years that teams of all calibers attended. It happens around late October/early November, but I don't think it's happened yet this year. Possibly may happen next semester?

Not sure what MCB4's deadlines and such are this year, but if you're from the Michigan area you can try to exhibition by getting in touch with Gary.

Srujan/Buckeye Mela is another fusion comp, but it has gained quite a strong reputation these past few years. Deadline for applications may have passed already since the comp is in late January, but if not their info is all over BTF and you should inquire ASAP.

good luck with your team Riya!
