that was one hell of a magic show. everyone always says empire tries to cater to a wider audience... how come this team doesn't focus on becoming better, more graceful dancers so they look less stiff on stage and appeal a little bit to the bhangra audience? u guys are obviously great performers though.
LOLWUT

What their previous performances , then i think you will understand what he means.
LOLWUT

I LOLed.

BBC DVDs came out a week back - kinda sad to see the same dancing routine from November, but every team has their own outside obligations as well. Good to see Empire still competing in the circuit and kinda amusing how everyone counts them out of predictions but they come back and pwn everyone lol.

here's an interesting stat:

bbc 2010: 1st place Empire, 2nd place AEG
bbc 2011: 1st place aeg, 2nd place empire
bruin 2012: 1st place empire, 2nd place aeg

so the last 3 times these teams faced off (minus elite), they switched placings...

bbc 2012: ????

Dude, Ashveer danced for empire for four years.
Yo guys! I heard Ashveer sprinted all the way down the Great Wall of China and still wasn't tired, so he combined dhammal & phumania into his workout on the way back.

On a real note: Ashveer's favorite word is diaspora and he taught traditional bhangra for 12 years in Punjab (albiet, it was "stage bhangra" post-partition).

Oh.. he's also my lover.

Basim, his favorite words are "the academy," although diaspora is a close second.

Fun story about Ashveer, by the way: last year, he managed to get an A+ in a class he turned the final paper into a couple of weeks late. I was impressed. Admittedly, this was the same class where I wrote an essay predicated solely on the fact that cheap, shitty Mithun-da potboilers are the entertainment of the subaltern and are therefore a more authentic expression of the culture of rural India than, say, a Satyajit Ray film, and I did so only because I wanted to quote extensively from GreatBong and May I Hebb Your Attention Pliss and have an excuse to watch Gunda, Loha and the like on repeat for a week. I got an A on that.

i'm impressed.

does ashveer also have an aversion to glowing green rocks and garlic? were his parents tragically stolen from him in the naemless back alley of a major city? is he the mortal projection of a demigod? is he a billionaire philanthropist playboy? did he get exposed to too many gamma rays? was he once a professional assassin?

Not sure about all that... but what I do know is that Ashveer doesn't always drink beer, but when he does... he prefers Dos Equis.

Everyone has different opinions, and bhangra empire isent really basti, they just have a different way of doing bhangra. but still they're probbly one off the most successfully bhangra teams.

I understand you don't like their "style" but don't say baisti... I'm pretty sure they've raised the bhangra profile more than any other team has ever! Ever.

Well they have raised the profile but not the most ,its not like bhangra is based on empire, but they have made a tremendous contribution the the bhangra community, so have other teams, some of top of my head nj sgpd, etcc.

empire has definitely raised the bhangra profile the most outside of competitions than any other team, if that's what you mean. they've danced internationally, at nba games and on america's got talent. hell, they even performed for obama. no offense to other teams but im pretty sure empire was the most successful at spreading bhangra, especially to the non-bhangra community. they showcase their talents to different audiences to try to get them interested in bhangra, which is why they have helped the bhangra community grow. im also pretty sure they are the only bhangra team to have a video on youtube with over 1,000,000 views on it....

Haha unless you count this
Bhangra Dance at Friend's Wedding

Empire has two vids over 1 million, for that matter. Jashan 11's rapidly closing on that. I mean, damn, in like a day their Bruin vid has almost 20k views.

exactly my point. theres absolutely no way all those views are from the bhangra community. the only team people know of that aren't in the bhangra circuit is empire and maybe one or two more teams.
