BHANGRA IN THE BURGH 2008 REGISTRATION

jasjeet (of cornell) was the founder of pol, then from my understanding at least, amandeep and tarun (cornellians) helped him out a lot, were initial moderators, etc...saleem is more of an expert on the cornell affiliations with pol, and he's all about the cornell affiliations with btf as well...

back to burgh questions, will the competition be looking more for local teams (like last year), or will there be a greater effort in getting the best teams this year?

On another note, Pittsburgh is an incredible city...full of things to do, amazing people, and BIB is one hell of a well run competition from the very nerdy folks at CMU (Cheap Shot).....

Shit Vic, that must suck. It's been like 9 months since that competition too.

A lot of teams, if not most, go to competitions to win and get money. No offense Swi, but even if there are legitimate concerns, you guys gotta get working on that one. Especially since you guys have a pretty good name out of all the bhangra competitions despite being relatively new.

Dear Bhangra Community:

First of all, thank you so much for your comments and concerns regarding our competition. Each of your suggestions and compliments are taken into consideration to make Bhangra in the Burgh 2008 even better than ever.

The Bhangra in the Burgh 2008 committee is doing the best we can to handle the payment situation. The BIB committee strives for success and to make sure that all teams that arrive in Pittsburgh are guaranteed world class treatment. Since our first year running the event, we have learned from our mistakes. While in the planning stages of the event, we are doing our best this summer to make sure such errors do not occur again. Behind the scenes, we have made a great deal of progress. As an organization under Carnegie Mellon University, we have also already taken the necessary steps to clear any communication problems regarding our account and payment for this coming year. We want to assure all applicants that every aspect of this year's Bhangra in the Burgh will be even better than last year!

BIB is by far the best competition ive ever performed at (even tho we didnt get our money).

they gave us 90 min of rehearsal time. thats no lie. 60 min in a pretty good sized room and then 30 min on stage (most comps only give you 15 min). that was definitely helpful.

and steak n shake in burgh is AMAZING.

BIB was mos def the best comp ever. we didnt see the city much, but it was a great time just at the university. also, SALIM, our liaison from last year, you are still the man! haha

im pretty sure everyone loved their liaisons from BIB last year, they were all pretty awesome, great showw

I need to clarify one thing.

Bhangra in the Burgh is a GREAT competition. I encourage teams to apply there and compete there. It's a lot of fun and the comittee really knows how to do their job.

On the other hand though, the problem I have is with the judges from last years panel. Some things were said, and it wouldn't be wise to compete at a competition where the judges know who you are and most likely don't like you.

My teamates and I still want to go back though. Maybe we will apply! We still have to decide though.

Oh I know he has, after all he was a contributor to POL, thats no joke... But considering the Cornell connection with the judges, I could foresee some problems if Cornell was to place...

I agree with both vick and jeeti on this one. Sure, they all have experience as judges, dancers, etc so definately all biases SHOULD be left at the door. however, 3 of the 5 judges are from cornell. Thats pretty shady to me. Couldnt they get a judge from the west coast? Tejinder Singh from siac? Mandeep from UBC? Come on now.

Judges look good in my opinion. Yes, a bit Cornell oriented, but I don't think it will be much of a problem. But we will see after the results this year.
