Hi All,
This is our first post on here although we tend to follow the forum quite abit. It's a great asset to have just like the UK based one Nachdapunjab.co.uk.
Firstly, just a quick thanks to all dancers and teams who have shown an interest and supported Bhangra Wars. The competition started in 2011 and was the first competition in the UK Open to bhangra teams other than university teams - it's provided a valued platform for UK Bhangra. It was hard to get the competition started as it was not expected from the Bhangra Community in the UK. It was always going to be tough to provide a stage for UK dancers but we have stuck by it and feel that we have bettered the competition year by year.
Organising a competition isn't easy as most of you know on this forum - it takes dedication and patience. We do this for bhangra, considering we are a non-profit event. We support Chosen Charities with the event every year and raise significant awareness for the causes.
Since our first competition in 2011, we have strived to make the competition a good one. There's is always room for improvement just like with everything in life and we fully understand that. We have always taken on feedback and have tried to work on it. Often some Competing teams at competitions can have mixed views and opinions and we see that on forums all the time. That's just the way things work with competitions - not everyone is wowed!
Anybody who has had to manage a competition is fully aware that often Rules and Regulations change due to suggestions from competing teams or circumstances that maybe beyond the control of the organisers, etc. However, for us we have only ever wanted a good competition than our previous one(s). All those involved play a part as to what the end result will be and we can honestly say that Bhangra Wars has grown into a Competition which has helped showcase the level of UK bhangra we see today.
We are grateful for the other Bhangra competitions that have emerged in the UK. There is always a need for more platforms for dancers to show their passion and love for bhangra. We are also grateful to all the dancers and teams who have supported our movement to get Bhangra in the UK recognised and hope you will continue to do so.
All competitions have rules and regulations which have to be put into place to make things clear for all parties involved. However we have always taken on suggestions from selected competing teams at team meetings regarding any aspect of the competition. We have set a challenge this year with the performance mix, this too will be discussed at the team meeting in May. All aspects of the competition require compromise. It shouldn't be bhangra dancer vs organising committee. We are all fighting to showcase one thing and that is Bhangra.
We sincerely wish all dancers and teams alike the best of luck when applying for any bhangra competition within the UK or elsewhere.
