Black & Yellow/Notorious Jatt Sample

good beat matching. my biggest problem with this mix is one that many people make when they start out: you're trying to mix a major key song (notorious jatt) with a minor key song (black and yellow). If you read up on how minor scales and majors scales operate, the two can never match up, because they fundamentally differ at a few notes (this is what makes minor key music sound sombe or angry or etc).

The point I'm trying to say is that these two songs are incompatible because their musical scale doesn't (and cannot) match up. Of course, don't let me say what you can and can't accomplish :D but that's just my opinion. In general, you want to combine major with major and minor with minor. And then there are those rare strange songs that switch between the two on the fly (Saawariya - Yoon Shabnami)

sriharfiez has hit it on point, and its a major point i've been trying for years now to convey to djs on here. the other thing u can do...if u really wanted to match the two...is cut up the notes that are in the major/minor scale for one of the songs, prolli black and yellow since its the instrumental...and make ur own beat out of it that would match in pitch. thats a lot of work though, and u have to be pretty sure u want to mix the two songs together

in this case, the two songs don't go together. If I can make a suggestion, mix Gupsy Aujla's Bhangra with Black and Yellow...they will fit perfectly, and you can find a draft of that in "B-Nasty - Unfinished mixes" thread.

Thanks a lot guys these are helping a lot. I read up on major and minor keys and I understand what you are talking about. I still don't know anything on Equalization levels. For not I just mess around with them on Audacity. I haven't learned how to use any complex programs like Acid or Mixcraft, my plan over break is to attempt to learn those. I made this other one, a Balle Balle by G.S Chaggar mix sample on Audacity and I had messed around with the EQ levels and changed the pitch around. Could you let me know if this is a step up and if I'm on the right track. Thanks again guys I really appreciate it.

unfortunately, I can't say this one is considerably better. The reason why is because the song you mixed with Balle Balle doesn't add much, and it's also rather quiet. But furthermore, I don't think they're in the same key.

Use this:
http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/music/piano/
to figure out what key each of the songs are in. You basically play the song, and then hit notes on there at random until you find what note matches up with the notes of the song, and thats a pretty good approx for the key its in. Then, you shift the pitch (I know audacity has this and makes it easier for you) such that the two songs are in the same key. Basically, that implies that at some point in your mix, the two songs will hit the same notes, which is what sounds good. The exception is of course if you're adding a drum beat, but drums have a tone of their own too...
