BOB 2009 - Attention Bhangra Competition Organizers

i don't get it how does BOB manage to move around every year...does their whole committee fly out to the city a week in advance to set up things?

Last year's bhangra lineup was DRP, 3D, and MSU Bhangra.

2005 - RU Bhangra, MBT, and Boston Bhangra
2006 - TBT, 3Rivers, and UBC
2007 - LBC, UBC, and RU Bhangra
2008 - DRP, 3D, and MSU

This year's show will be on the WEST COAST. The first two years were in NYC, the 3rd and 4th year in Chicago, and it only makes sense for the 5th year to be on the WEST COAST. We will be releasing the city in a few weeks. Thanks.

Yea BOB is on April 11th in San Francisco (same date as Bhangra Blowout!!!). They're website is somewhat updated (more info coming soon http://www.bobcompetition.com).

The bid competitions are Burgh, Boston, and DDA - so VCU and Empire have bids, DDA of course remains to be seen.

correct me if i'm wrong but,
last year it was MSU Girls (AVAP 2nd place), DRP (Boston 1st place), and 3D (Dhol Di Awaz 1st place). DRP won the whole event (best in Bhangra category and best overall from the fusion/raas/bhangra categories).

Nahhh. I believe initially the last bid was suppose to be from AVAP and thus SGPD. But it ended up being given to MSU Girls (2nd place tie AVAP) through some process. I think Fusion was too late in the game to be a contender for BOB Bid. And MBT wasn't 1st place at Fusion, it was Duniya All-Stars. MBT was the controversial 3rd place.

Tiny typo in the "BOB Federation" page, under the listings of competitions on the right. The competition is Bhangra IN the Burgh, not ON the burgh. Other than that the webpage looks clean, good job.

Also, it'd be great to get some info about BOB. We all know what the purpose is, but I'd personally love some more information about who is running/financing the operation. And why there are only three comps for bhangra category (i.e. are there any plans to increase and its in the works, or is this all for sure?). Also, VCU came very close to winning both Burgh and Boston, would you have had a plan in place (moot, but interesting nonetheless)?

You guys get a lot of flak from the bhangra community, best way to reduce that is to open dialogue and let us into your thought process, something you didn't do well I think last year. The more you communicate with us (BTF being only one avenue), the more likely you are to put Bhangra fans in the seats and better teams at your comp.

I'd really like to see the Bhangra section of this taken seriously as an all-star comp (don't really care for the cross-style part of it). But the only way that happens is if a relationship is thoughtfully crafted.

I think, and i forgot if this is entirely correct, in 2005, 3 Rivers won the Zee International Bhangra Comp, and UBC Girlz Bhangra won VIBC and also South Beach Bhangra, and so, i THINK since they won VIBC first, they took the second place team from South Beach (Duniya All Stars? or Rutgers?..i forgot who it was. )

so to answer your question, they would just take second place from that competition. So if Empire or VCU win DDA, or even both take 1st and 2nd, itll go to the next qualified team, since it is auto fed bids or watever its called...meaning dda 3rd place would go to BOB sanfran.

i suck at organizing my thoughts properly, so if that was confusing just let me know haha

Yea UBC won both VIBC and South Beach so RU (2nd at South Beach) got the bid. Whoever's getting third at DDA is lookin' good hahaha jk

tz, you mean BOB 2006? i remember zee wasnt actually a bob bid that year, and when duniya couldnt go because of finals, the BOB peeps picked three rivers because they got first at zee. the three bob bids that year were boston, vibc, and sbb, so it should have been ubc, duniya, and TBT, but duniya didnt go so they picked a first place team from a different competition. it was quite the controversy on POL when it all went down lol.

lolll I don't think BOB would change their date because Bhangra Blowout is on the same day. Many would consider BOB to be the bigger competition as it is "Best of the Best". I wouldn't assume they would change their date for anything. haha, but on a sidenote,

im not sure how bob works so i was just wonderinggg for the bhangra category, are burgh, boston, and dda the only bids? are other comps going to be bids as well?

and do all teams in all categories compete against each other? how does judging work for that?

just some things i was wondering aboutt!
