The type of work it takes to organize a comp is tremendous and fighting back against university policies can be damn near impossible.
I agree, it is a huge responsibility, as someone who just organized/ran one and is going into the second year of it. I can't imagine how much better my first year would've gone had I been more in tune with university and venue policies. Regardless of whether you want to shit talk the comp/organizers/venue or not, I hope boiler can come forward with some concrete answers, and more importantly, concrete solutions to this (especially financial solutions).ashvin.kapur said:Honestly, I disagree. If you're going to run a competition, you have an ENORMOUS responsibility. It is a crazy amount of work and organization. It is a crazy amount of dedication and communication. But when you don't deliver on that responsibility, it is every competing team's right and duty to voice their disappointment/anger/loss.
It is an organizers responsibility to make sure that they can navigate these policies WELL BEFORE A DAY BEFORE THE COMPETITION WEEKEND. That analysis needs to happen before even sending out the first application packet. Whatever "conclusion" at this point is worthless to every dancer that didn't get to compete; for many dancers, for what would have been their last competition. There will be explanations that "It was out of our hands" and "We did everything we could" but a) it doesn't change anything, b) it's just an excuse, c) you failed on your responsibility as a committee.
So in other words, I implore everyone to bitch away.
