I believe AVAP was a non-prof as well, and the proceeds went to cancer research or something of the like. More comps like that would be great
Burgh proceeds go to homeless children's fund, BdM was for Lima charities, and many comps donate to Punjabi/South Asian orgs etc. It's the norm to use comps to support others, not the exception to be honest
JBD is donating to three charities and I believe Elite 8 & Burgh donate a percentage of their proceeds as well.

Usually having the non-profit status gives you discounts with venue rentals, etc. so that's one reason most comps are non-profit orgs. Also, sponsors are more inclined to donate to a non-profit than a for profit org because that provides the donor with a tax deduction.

Generally speaking, orgs get that non-profit status to save money, rather than donate the profits to charities. The profits made usually go straight to the budget for following year's comp. I could be wrong, and in no way am I speaking on behalf of boston bhangra or any other bhangra comp for that matter.

And no boston bhangra's not the ONLY non-profit comp in the states.

Bhangra Fever this year will be assisting in the cause for Pratham, which was established in 1994 to provide education to the children in
the slums of Mumbai city. :)

"Normally from BBC we make anwhere from about $2k - $5k in profit."
...
"and we're proud to say we're probably the ONLY non-profit Bhangra organization in North America."

sounds contradictory =O
you clearly don't understand the structure or concept of a non-profit organization...
A nonprofit organization (abbreviated NPO, also not-for-profit) is an organization that does not distribute its surplus funds to owners or shareholders, but instead uses them to help pursue its goals. ...
LOL don't be hasty in your opinions.
