BTF File Backup/Slow

Hi guys
I am running a full file backup since this morning for BTF. As a result you may have some pages load slowly.

If it's really slow let me know and I can try to throttle it back.

I couldnt do it last night because even at 3am EST when I slept there were like 70 ppl browsing BTF lol

PS - I dont anticipate having to do these often but I wanted to do a full one now that we moved. in the future I'll be able to do backups of just new attachments/avatars.

Hi all,
The backup ran from 8am EST to now 1pm EST. I'm pausing it because I dont want you to have a drop in speed. I'll resume it tomorrow at 8am (it will resume tomorrow from 8am and finish by 12-1pm)

Thanks for the information and updates Saleem

I'm glad you are doing the backups at non-peek times because that can really have an impact on the site nagivation/operation. For PHP & MySQL, the gzip compression algorithm works wonders.

Thnx for the tip Basim. Yup, when I do manual DB backups they are gzipped and 1/4 the size. But the File backup i am just FTPing all files perhaps there is a better way.

Meanwhile the Forum, Blog, and Wiki databases are automatically backed up every night at like 5am EST (if you're on BTF at 5am you need to not lol).
