**BTF Remix Challenge 11: Sargam (16) vs. Krazi D (14)**

Track A: If only Dhola wasn't cut off by that gunshot hahaha. Kush said it best, didn't quite balance everything out. I think this felt like a more complete song, but without that balance it comes off very one note cause we don't see any dynamics.

Track B: Felt short. Mix was only a minute, an extra 16 beats to close out the mix would have been nice. I think the quality of this mix is much better. Balanced, built up, flowed well. I have no problem with the choice of sample, just wish it ended stronger!

they were picked with care and subtle hints upon identity of the dj and with a subtle nexus with the theme of the song and mix...even the gun shot occurred at that moment for a reason...i don't think any of it was arbitrary per se (as i understand the subtleties since i know both the djs, but on their face, the samples seems arbitrary for sure....


also, with the gunshot thing, i think the mixer submitted the wrong mix, haha because i was sent a version that has a much better effect there, oh well...

Really hard to vote on this one. The original song was raw vocals so I think this one goes to whoever made the best use of the vocals, which was Track B, should win. The rap vocals didn't make any sense to me though (made sense after a while). but I guess they were there to fill space.

Track A simply put in some other pappi gill vocals and finished it up with a raw untouched clip of the song. The gunshot to kill the dhola vocals was ??? . I would have liked to hear some reverb maybe or something to make the vocals sound finished and not as raw. It was not as clean as track B either, but still a really good effort from both mixers.

track A: i liked the "ominous" opening; too little bhangra mixes have that feel. that being said, wayy too long of a buildup. i wasn't a fan of that. and like gsingh said, the gunshot vocal ending was weird. i also dont think the ominous tone was carried all the way through. throw some o fortuna on that, perhaps? any choral chant, basically. instant ominousness.
track B: i liked the lack of extraneous shit in the beginning. went straight to the vocals which was sick. however, adding the black guy vocals in the end seemed out of place, as they didn't fit with the "dum chk chk" from challa. this was a more dance-y type mix, and i totally thought the beginning bit could work for a shikkeh segment.


i vote track B. more enjoyable to me. although A just barely missed it. it the ominous thing was kept throughout solidly, it would have won hands down.

lol... well the "nexus" of mysterious ideas and significant undertones and concurrent themes were all completely lost to anyone listening to the mixes and actually made them worse to listen to... just saying. Its always cool to input stuff that has personal significance... by it shouldnt bring down the quality of the mixing or detract from the overall feel. thats just silly. Find something else to put in that works. Its a mixing contest not an attempt at musical symbolism...

just my opinion.

yep, you're right kush, it's a mixing contest and those subtleties ARE lost to anyone who doesn't get them...but personal symbolism doesn't detract from a mix for me, i appreciate the subtleties personal artists...

Considering it is Pappi Gill, I didn't like either of the mixes because it took away his whole credibility as a Boliyan, Folk singer, with all the extra hip hop and lyrics.

Track A- I still liked better than track B because it was subtle and flowed well, only if not many different songs were mixed in it.

Track B- Sounds like a track off of a Mixtape, constantly changing beats, felt like it was gonna go to a different song every 10 seconds..
