Hello BTF,

Here is Cal Bhangra Alumni’s performance from this weekend at Notorious Bhangra.
A big congrats to AG, BK, and Carolina! And thanks to the committee for putting on a great show for the 2nd time around

!Being a part of this competition allowed the alumni to reconnect with each other, and we had such a blast doing so. Not only were we teammates from the moment Cal Bhangra started, but also a family that wanted to get back together for one more performance. We feel blessed to have had this opportunity.

A huge shout out to GSingh for creating an amazing mix for us! And Kuntal Shah for recording another video for us =)

Our Joris:
Blue: Nav and Chethana
Orange: Harjit and Ashley
Black: Luvreet and Jasleen
Pink: Jackie and Anjuli

PS: Performance starts at 2:53https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u4hHwTttzs&feature=youtu.be

This is my first review on BTF, and I admit I don't know many of the specific sequences and style names. But I loved this set so I'll give it a shot.

General Thoughts:

First of all - y'all killed it. It made the competition worthwhile for me (shout out to Manreet for convincing me). It shows a lot about a school's team culture when the alumni remain so dedicated and can put on a show like this. On the same lines, it was very cool to see the school pride with the Cal flag during the khunde breakdown, the Blue and Yellow song and vardi. Those are the good kind of gimmicks, that have a reason.
I often look to the weakest dancer on stage, but everyone here was clean and fully prepared. That's huge. Lastly - I was pretty impressed that you guys had constant motion and formation changes, but they never looked forced or strained. That's pretty difficult, and as I get into choreo and set creation, it's a big learning point.

Specific Thoughts:

Intro video - that was very clever - good to see an alumni team still paying so much attention to the little things like that.
Kanye opening - It was hype but I felt like you guys could have done a little more with it.
Opening saap formation - (04:15) has been used a lot recently, but this was a simpler variation and was executed very well, which is not easy.
Transition into Khunde - another example of you guys paying attention to the little things. Most teams just drop saaps and go into khunde, often paying no attention at all into the transition so it looks sloppy. This was so well done and clean. Props.
Some nice variations of faslaan and phumaniyaan. Once again - the little things.

Dhamaal transition (08:40) - So dope. Probably my favorite part. I loved what you did with highlighting the jodis moving to the front.
Can't Hold Us is super overused, but you guys made it work with ciel koti and dhamaal both. Especially dhamaal. Can't argue with that. The repeated use of Kanye was pretty sweet too, he's one of my favorite artists.

The finale was a bit chaotic at times, and people were noticeably off. But you always recovered quickly, and still ripped the ending.
Overall I really enjoyed this, and am surprised it didn't place. But I guess during a 5 hour set you get sleepy and miss some things. Either way, congratulations on a great performance.

Was really really impressed by this, especially the theraflu/jugni segment and the dhamaal. I agree that the ending was a bit all over the place but loved this set

Amazing job Cal alum! I am amazed with what you all were able to do with the set given peoples' location and summer plans. Props!! It was great seeing you all; watching you all dance together again made me smile :)
