Been waiting the wholee first half of the season to say this (even though it might seem redundant now)
CARMELO ANTHONY IS NOW A KNICK!! ;D

Wondering what the BTF world has to say about this

Denver played New York so bad. Knicks front office is stupid. Gave up half their roster for an aging Billups and a Melo they could have signed at the end of the season. SMH. Nets owner on the other hand, is a genius

Honestly the knicks got much better but championship contender; I don't think so. Amare and Carmelo can't play defense and both need the ball in their hands to score. They got the same problem bron and Wade had or still have depending on how u look at it but regardless it is time for the knicks to prove themselves and show that they are relevant because a relevant knicks team just makes the NBA a whole lot sweeter

as a knick fan, i'll take any problem that wade and bron have...the only problem i see them having is, where to put their trophy? Knicks are about to murder this season.

I dont understand why people hating on the knicks... Donnie walsh knows more than anyone else. They got 2 top 10 players on their roster, and gave up overacheiving role players to get them. Every team that has won the championship in the last 30+ years, have had at least 2 all-star, hof like players on their team.

Even this trade- the knicks get the best players.
They gave up felton, and got a better player in Billups.
Melo > > > > Ganillinari
Brewer >>> wilson chandler
Anthony randolph wasnt playing, and they got rid of eddy curry's contract.
They gave up a future 2014 pick, and 2 second rounders that arent even theirs.

How did they give up their team? They got better players. Good players for denver as well. Pretty much as close as a win win you will see in the NBA. Lock up melo before the new CBA, walsh is smart. I wouldnt have waited till the summer either. In addition- billups contract is done when CP3 and Dwill are free agents.

Not happening this year. Starting Ronny Turiaf in the middle is no answer to teams like the Celtics, Magic or Heat. And while I can't blame the Knicks for getting an all-star in Melo, he and Amare play no defense and I do not see them meshing too well.

Also, I think Billups is an upgrade over Felton, but how will he play within D'Antoni's system? Billups is best in a half court set, not running. The Knicks have no depth to make a run this season...and it is unlikely they develop enough chemistry to compete with the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Nuggets got a damn good deal, everyone knew Melo was leaving and they got some good young players, draft picks and did not tie themselves up with an aging player or contract.

+1 on Turiaf

Maybe they'll put their name in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes after next season and get a big...IMO all they did was add more/better offense which was never really their problem, I think the Nuggets came out on top on this one, but only time will tell ...

...if this is Boston's "last go" at a title run, then the next few years should definitely be interesting in the East...

This is gonna be either like Allen Iverson + Carmelo Anthony all over again or it'll work out.

Let it play out for five games, the Knicks will obvioulsy make the Playoffs in the East, but it all depends on what seed they earn for the first round. If they're not top 4, they're out in the first round.

Because of the new CBA Melo was going to sign an extension this year, guaranteed. If the Nuggets didn't trade him he would have re-signed with them and if they traded him elsewhere (like to the Nets) he would have signed an extension there. If the Knicks didn't get him now, they would not get him in the off-season.

The Nets owner spent 4+ months trying to get him and couldn't pull it off, losing out to the team he is really battling with- the Knicks. He is the real loser in this deal.

alot of knicks fans r mad that they gave up a trio of good players, but the three players we got in return r wayy better. and getting rid of currys contract will let them sign a 3rd star in the offseason....but despite all that, the celtics r gonna win it this year :)

lolol man i didn't even want to get started here. The Knicks arent moving past the 6th seed in the east, if anything theyll fall! You ahve the C's and Heat in the top spot, the Bulls with a returning Noah nipping at miami's heels, and then Orlando and Atlanta fighting for 4/5... NO WAY can the thinned out knicks handle this. They gutted their team, no ifs ands or buts about it. and this felton billups talk that everyone has... sure for this SEASON you want the stronger, playoff proven billups, but in a D'ANTONI SYSTEM!? boy is way too old to be running like that. Felton has YEARS ahead of him, years to develop, and if you're trying to build a team, you want parts that will work past the next year. Billups will be out in 2012. In addition, there is no answer on the inside, amare can't handle anyone his size or even an inch bigger, or smaller for that matter. All they have done is added a scorer to a team that needs defense, plain and simple.

ESPN hit it on the head, Anthony is BAIT! CP3 or Deron Williams on the horizon (god willing, with a forgiving new CBA), means a very bright horizon in 2012 for the Knicks but nothing before then. Anthony is not lebron, or even wade for that matter. He cannot change team dynamic. he is not a game changer every night on the floor. He has his skills, dont get me wrong, but he does not guarantee a number of wins.

Harman, Melo would NOT sign an extension with the nets, there was NO FUTURE for him in that system. Role players around him and a 5 rpg CENTER in brook lopez? please. Dude woulda paid extra to get outta there sooner. All the nets did was drive up his price, which is a genius move in this competitive market. Sure they have 2 superstars there, but they're not going anywhere, and now the Nets have the opportunity to search for new talent in another market. Sure its gonna be super competitive, but in 2-3 years, look to the nets to have made some very big moves and developments. Too much money, too much driving force, and too much hype with the Nets after this for them to fail for a while.

As for the Knicks, the first half of the season will carry them for the rest of this one. And then look for them to get stomped out by the Bulls/Miami in 4, max 5 games in the first round. You heard it first here.

:)

Prokerov is a genius when it comes to handling his business. If the Knicks can't do anything in the 2011-2012 season, the nets get a ring before the Knicks.

Ultimately the biggest problem with this deal is the fact that Amare and Carmelo will take up around 40ish million in cap space for the next 5 years or so. The new CBA is gonna literally screw players from being able to get big deals and the cap might be made hard at 50 million. Also the MLE is gonna be gone most likely. The Knicks are going to have around 10 million to work with at best and that is not going to be enough to build a real contending team.

Lets get to the real point though, Carmelo is overrated. He is a great top 15ish player in this league but his value is inflated because of the fact he played at a higher pace in Denver and is a volume shooter. His defense is mediocre at best and under D'Antoni is not going to get any better. He needs the ball to be effective and is not a great passer or playmaker. He is a great offensive player but in the playoffs that is not what will get you over the hump. Defense and rebounding will, NYK has none.

Not saying he won't get better at those aspects but I don't think it will happen under D'Antoni. Luckily his contract is done this year I believe and they can get a real coach for that team. Bring back VAN GUNDY I say.

On the flip side New York had to make this deal because Carmelo was going to sign that extension regardless where he went, even if he got traded to the Nets. Carmelo won the game of chicken with the Nuggets and they relented. If I was the Knicks though I woulndt tie up another person in a max contract unless I knew they were worth it. Carmelo is not really worth it.

Oh well, enjoy the rest of the season because the next basketball we see will be in the Fall of 2012. Lockout here we come.

am i the only person who thinks melo ISNT overrated? keeping it as simple as possible, the man is young and yet to reach his full potential and is one of the few players left that makes scoring look so effortless when he's focused. i don't think an immediate impact will be made, especially with the loss of felton who was blooming this season in dantonis system, but it seems all good in the long run as im sure theyll fill in missing pieces to pose a threat in the east. if i were a knick fan, i know id be happy. now that the melodrama is done, can i officially start the GET RID OF VINSANITY campaign in phoenix by thursdays deadline?! playoff push here we come!

Being overrated doesn't mean he isn't a great player. But the talk that he is a top 5, or even top 10 player in this league is ludicrous. And that is how he has been treated by the media.
