Certifications for Competitions

Essentially, you need a solid initiative. What do competitions gain from this? Let's say that better teams will apply to their competitions if they are "certified". But even if better teams do not apply, there will always be teams that will come (there are so many bhangra teams in the US and a lot of them will cherish the chance to make it to a competition even if they're not that great). (Just Jeeti pointed out)

In the end, the competitions will always have teams and audience to come to their competitions if they were good in the first place. But regardless, I'm down to help - it's a really good idea, Faizan.

they will be considered a LEGIT competition if certified. Thats what they will get out of this. All teams will apply to a legit competition. Nobody wants to pay $20 to go to a rigged competition. A competition who isnt certified is basically losing money.

yeah the big thing is that teams will know that the time and effort they are putting in is going to be rewarded with proper care and effort coming back at them from the organizers, which in the end of the day, is basically all you want when you go to a competition. having that certification, and having the threat of the certification pulled, will hopefully ensure organizers get their act together, or maintain standards that they have set.

as for a date for somewhat of a get together, i know i will be visiting dc next weekend, and will be seeing waleed and saleem (btf thundercats, HO), but i know some of you guys are in the area as well. why don't we all meet up if possible and hammer some stuff out?

also i think it is important for teams to sign something that says that they are part of the bhangra council and that they will only compete at competitions that are certified. So the council will have an agreement with the teams as well as the competition committees. Its just like saying nobody from the MLS or NHL cant compete overseas while they are under contract with these sports organizations.

Like everyone said this is a large undertaking. And I'm also willing to help out. I have a new name and logo in mind will show you tonight

The only area that this cannot come into play is the post-competition judging fiascos. a bhangra council/society can do everything to prep and vet the competition and judging prior to, but if there's 'questionable' judging, nothing a society can do other than review the scoresheets.

alright, for those of you in the d.c. metro area...why don't you guys get this kicked off...i agree that this would best work in person...focus on putting tangible stuff on paper...and set some goals...report back, and we'll go from there...

a major goal should be to draft documents...judging score sheets (traditonal, modern, live, all girls, juniors)...a team agreement, and competition agreement...

it seems like there are a ton of us interested, but i think 8-15 people are only needed once a core group of 4-5 set down a good framework...if any of you are gung-ho about participating in this first meeting, we can set up a conference call with the group that is meeting in d.c.

hey new member here and i know this is pretty far down the thread but was wondering if, since this is already such a huge undertaking, that those leading the project might want to work closely with the BOB board. I dont know what the overall feeling of BOB is with the community here, however it does seem that they have a good hold on administration and organization. not saying that this committee would be a subsidiary of BOB, but could help legitimize BOB picks and work together to define the best teams.

burghwala, the principle of this whole concept is to legitimize all competitions. Hence, the council would work closely with all committees, not just one.

Hey guys,

I'm was on CMU's team, Chak De, last year and am part of Burgh's board this year. I live in NoVA and would love to be a part of this on some level. I don't speak for the board or the comp (all communication comes through 'official' outlets only, so anything I ever type is my own opinion), but I think having people who are a part of current competitions from the organizational side will be an asset.
