Hey BTF,
Rankings for 2019 Championships start this weekend!

ABOUT THE SCORING MODEL:

• Notes on Rankings Model
  • Model will provide an even playing field for ALL teams & ALL competitions
  • NO tiering of competitions and NO bid competitions
    • We want all competitions to have whatever identity they please. Credit is given to teams who place, regardless of competition
  • NO standardization of rubrics
  • NO preferred style of bhangra (however, this is a music competition)
• Scoring Equation
  • Teams receive a score for any placing
  • Developed after months of work with a college math professor (PhD) to ensure that we created and tested a fair model
  • Equation is based on quality/strength of placings, which is determined by how successful the teams you beat are this season
• Invitations
  • Top 8 scoring averages will be guaranteed an invitation
  • There will be 2 wild card spots. Teams who qualify for these spots include:
    • Teams who barely miss the cut for top 8
    • Teams who only compete once all season and win that competition

Will there be a continuously updated ranking like legends?

Developed after months of work with a college math professor (PhD) to ensure that we created and tested a fair model

in the context of the bhangra dance and the bhangra circuit no mathematical model can ever be considered "fair" due to the fact that there is always the probability (small, yet statistically significant due to chaos/noise) that an otherwise unremarkable/unranked team could put together a winning set. the only option is to have every team in the circuit perform simultaneously, under the same conditions, judged by the same judges until the wave function "collapses"

Yes there will be continuous rankings posted!

While there may not be a completely foolproof way to determine who the "best" 8-10 teams are, we do believe that we have developed a very strong model that focuses on valuing the success (placings) of teams throughout the season. We trust our model to help us invite an elite lineup to Championships of Bhangra 2019. We will be posting our test model from this past year soon for everyone to check out!
