bloody hell that's absolutely horrid. i don't support this at all, but you would think these heartless people could at least properly put the animal to sleep instead of skinning it and whacking it while still alive. disgusting.

How many people eat meat out of curiosity? The treatment of animals be it for fur or eating is the same. Its said because I pretty at one time these time of people who be killed for doing things like this.

You know what they say... this life the butcher, next life the meat.

dude that was crazy. Nobody has the right to take away anyone's life be it human or an animal. this society is just too messed up.

i agree with summy, i feel we are no good either. watching this stuff makes me want to stop eating meat. but for how long can i control myself? i dont know.

maybe something should be done against these kind of acts.

HORRID!

"The greatness of a nation, and its moral progress is measured by the way its animals are treated" - Ghandi

So glad that halal meat has guidelines against the cruelty of animals!

Basim, we come from two different schools of that, so your comment to me is a little off, but you are defintely in your own right to say it, its your religious belief. Correct me if I am wrong, but Halal meat is the cutting of the neck and juglar vein right? Does the animal have to be dead before you do it, or when its alive? To me, as a sikh (let me emphasize that, I am not saying for muslims), religious killing of anything, never mind animals, is a horrible act.

I think it was Gandhi who says not eating meat is also a sense of equality. That animals represent the helpless, the dumb, etc... and taking advantage of their status does not limit us from attacking humans who may have the same disabilities...

A veg lifestyle is one that at the beginning takes hard work (from what I understand, been a vegetarian for life). But its with anything, you need a sense of morality in your life. For us to take advantage of animals because of their incapabilities of defending themselves, why is that any different than someone murdering and killing a defensless human?

Sorry for responding to you so late Summy; I had not checked this topic since I had posted. I just want to say that I respect everyone's personal and religious beliefs when it comes to this issue, so please do not consider my thoughts below as preaching or anything of that sort. This is just to answer your question and provide more insight on ONE of MANY beliefs regarding eating meat.

The term "halal" is Arabic term designating any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law and custom (opposed to haraam). Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halal

Halal meat is essentially the permissable meat that has been slaugthered (zibah) with the name of God. The healthy animal should be alive (breathing). You are indeed correct: the jugular vein, windpipe, and carotid artery should be slit (not the entire neck cut off) with a very sharp blade. This allows for the least painful death since blood flows out very quickly and easily.

There are rules & etiquettes for meat to be slaugthered and considered Halal. Here is a brief description of the basic requirements: http://www.halalfoodauthority.co.uk/main_zibah.htm

Let me know if you have any other questions,

~ Basim :)

Basim, thanks for that. I rsepect your religious beliefs and your freedom to practice them. I just see that as inhumane, cutting a defenseless animals neck, and juglar vein. Thats just me because my religious philosophy has a basis in the equality of all souls (with animals included), and I realize that maybe Islam and other religions may have a different take on that. Whatever to each his own, its just gruesome what goes on in the world today, but taste buds nonetheless.
