With half the bhangra circuit season coming to a close, what are some trends (good and bad) in the circuit? What have we seen so far? Masti and other competitions are just around the corner... What should we expect in terms of the general trends in co-ed, all-male and all-female, traditional or live, independent or collegiate teams?

Two trends I've noticed. More collegiate teams are going traditional which is good. And more and more teams think it's creative to use Jatt (by Jazzy B) mixed in with Soorma (by Jazzy B). I know of at least 4 teams using this gimmicky move and I'm sure there will be more.

What else?

1. Competitions are starting to load up on teams(Masti, DDA) and get loaded.

2. The Vardis are becoming sicker and sicker as more teams get real creative with theirs

3. The tendency of teams to remix bhangra songs with on or two bhangra songs(something you touched on) more and more

4. The large influence of BTF on dances, mixes, etc

5. Traditional teams go with longer segments of songs in their mix(HPD used to do this)

6. college teams rising up to traditional powerhouse independent teams

7. someone finally makes a mix thats so good that someone actually might drop dead in the audience

8. More competitions adopting the separation-of-teams approach

9. The winner of mastis dance being so good that it brings Bindhrakhiya out of the grave to sing their boli

10. At one competition everyone will wear BTF shirts to a mixer(a little advert here haha)

11. The sense that all-girls teams might not need a separate category and dance with the big boys(Jawani anyone)

12. teams starting to pick competitions because of their style more and more

13. Song selections are going to diversify a lot due to the increase of the availability of good songs

14. More competitions will pop up as bigger teams look to smaller comps for funding, practice, good times(whatever reasons)

15. One or more "random who-the-hell-are-they...damn-that-was-ILL-can-I-have-your-mix" teams

16. Dancers on more than one teams(as many as 3-4 teams)

17. An increase in junior teams and junior competitions

18. More fun times, meeting great people across the country(you guys are awesome), funny vids, and sweet songs

19. Competitions listening more and more to dancers from america/people aware of whats going on in the circuit to field better competitions

20. The traditional college bhangra teams will bring formation heavy sets out.

21. All guys teams will a higher emphasis on "high" energy bhangra(just a feeling, I am not so sure that is a general trend)

Thanks for listening to this long post and that reminds me

22. everyone here is awesome

1. the constant challenge to make the best mix out...thank you sher/soormay/sgpd

2. teams having greater autonomy in choosing competitions by their categories/style

3. after partys becoming fun again, less drama.

4. a healthy balance on the circuit, there just isn't one style anymore...there is no RIGHT style, and dancers can pick and choose how they wish to dance rather than everyone going modern or traditional.

5. bhangra masti is going to really set the standard/trends for 2009.
