To be honest, I dont think the role of The Joker could be played any better then it was by Heath Ledger. He did a great job and it's sad he's not here to see how many people appreciated how well he brought the joker to life. The romours about how well it was done were true. I'm still in shock.

Overall, I loved the movie. Batman was also well played. Great story line. The joker was freaky as hell! He had some funny parts aswell. the movie revolved around the joker. I don't see other parts being as good as this. But we'll have to wait and see.

Im going to watch it tonight!!!!!!!! Im soooooo stoked! I watched hancock last night, that was pretty good. During previews the dark knight trailer came on and I just got goosebumps, it was awesome!........ Im not surprised by the good reviews on heath ledger. Its because of this role that he died. He dedicated so much to studying the Joker's role that he literally became an insomniac, hence the overdosage on sleeping pills. I read somewhere that he even used to show up on the set on his day off, dressed as the joker, acting like the joker. It became such a nuisance that they would have to tell Heath to leave the set. He also kept a Joker journal and wrote down stuff like "things that joker would laugh at" and supposedly the stuff in the journal was quite disturbing.

Meistro where can I read about this?

I came home after watching the movie and searched up some stuff on his death. I found stuff about how he just couldnt sleep and his role in another was messing with him? I heard playing the roll of the joker caused his death. I found it strange that playing a roll could lead to something like that.

I want to read about how the roll of the joker led to his death.

I don't know Miestro if that all real or if the documentary I saw was fake,
I was watching a documentary on TV about him yesterday and the role of Joker wasn't the cause of his death. Its true what the produces and directors said about him playing joker....when he played joke it was sooo real that it gave them the goosebumps, you couldn't tell he was acting. But the cause of his death is related to ODing on pills. He had insomnia and was on medication for that and other problems. He recently got a divorce and his little girl was taken from him, which started the whole medication and pills. He didn't get enough time to recover from the divorce and was on his was to England to shoot another movie, he was very sick, and a lot of the current movie they are shooting(its called something "Imagen" or something like that) involved him standing in the rain in a thin suite, which caused him to become more ill. But anyways, the doctor said that the combination of pills he was taking was very dangerous and that no doctor in there right might would ever give that combination. When authority figures checked out his place, the pills were in the proper bottles and there was no sight of him doing anything crazy or "joker like." It was a simple OD. The documentary also mentioned how the reporters were trying to get a story out of him since the start of Batman since they didn't like him....apparently he spit at a paparazzi a while back. people who were interview on the documentary were the actors and producers.

lol my bad i basically summarized the documentary....so I don't know if i believe the whole Joker conspiracy anymore. I think he was just sick mentally and physically because he was working crazy hours. People on the set said they could see his body wearing down and Heath kept going becuase he wanted his work life to distract him from his personal life.

Yea thats what i heard too abhi. There were numerous quotes from the director and bale claiming that he did give it his all for the role but he had personal problems away from the set.

This movie was FANTASTIC!

I grew up with superheroes and x-men. Watched all the cartoons and read a lot of comic books.

Joker was very well written and Heath Ledger did an amazing job. They really fleshed out his character. Batman was amazing. Christian Bale is the perfect Batman. Two Face was well written as well.

The only thing bad I could say about the movie is that it was a bit long. It kinda dragged on, but other than that, it was a super hit. In addition, not was the storyline so engaging, but the movie works on so many layers. Like why Batman had to do what he had to at the end...etc

Oh yeah, I also thought that the supersonic eyes thing that allowed him to see everyone was lame as hell. But those were the only 2 things.

And Two Face is totally dead. They had a funeral, which means he gets buried some way. If he fell off a cliff and they found no body, then that's a different story.

One of the best movies I've ever seen, sheer entertainment for 2.5 hours. I was in like the 4th row, but man I loved it even more from there than I would've from a farther seat.

Heath Ledger = sad story, great actor, best villain

Come on Kinnell, we get a funeral with no body. They can get away with this because his burn injuries means they don't have to keep the casket open....

Harvey Dent as Gotham knew him is dead, so that's what the funeral was for. Two Face is alive and kicking. You don't really think they'd have batman kill two-face and not joker....

i pretty much spent 4-5 hours just reading up on the production of TDK and the plotline as well as where the story goes from here on out.

The movie was superb, and the Joker is going to be the villain everyone from this generation remembers. I'm talking about any villain in general regardless of Marvel/DC comics.

Now, I really wondered what was going to happen after all of it. Batman running away constantly in the third? Ehh not too good of an attention getter. Harvey Dent is probably alive...they had to "kill" him off b/c it would make his good guy reputation live on as a legacy. I think he'll be back for the third, but honestly I don't know how you can top the Joker in terms of maniac behavior and a mean streak. Teaming up with maybe the Penguin? and scarecrow is not dead yet either....

When we last saw Joker he was alive. Do you think he will be referenced in the next film? Supposedly the third film was to be the trial of Joker with Harvey Dent prosecuting, and in THIS film the Joker was going to scar Dent, but obviously things were drastically changed.

I need some clarification as well: How exactly was Dent captured AFTER Gordon "came back from the dead"? I know those 2 cops were on the mob payroll, but I just can't remember how they did it.

Also, disturbing:

I'm so glad that franchises like Batman and Bond have been reinvented. "Batman Forever" starring Val Kilmer is on TNT and I made it through about 4 minutes before being thoroughly disgusted. It's all so... crappy. Didn't know Tommy Lee Jones could suck so badly.

Honestly though I've liked the past two Batmans and definitely Casino Royale was an excellent restart on Bond that gave the character a little bit of depth.

Honestly, I really wouldn't care if Harvey Dent is alive or not. Because I, for once, 100% trust the makers of the last two Batman movies. Both movies have been superb and a treat for all of us old school Batman fans. I'm sure the third movie will be just as superb.

I hope to god, its not the Penguin. Mr. Freeze would be sick - he had a sick storyline.

mr freeze? really? that would be horrendous! i think the only way to keep going with theme of "this is what batman would be like if it was real and not a comic book" would be if they introduced a penguin character who was like a mob boss (but the mob has already been explored so im wishy washy on that), or a riddler who was a psychopathic killer like jigsaw from the saw franchise (which im kinda liking despite the fact that i hate the saw franchise). or catwoman as a potential new love interest? did anyone else catch that in the beginning, when bruce is talking to lucius fox/alfred (i forget) about a new suit and he's like, oh will this protect me against dogs? and he gets the reply, dogs? yes! cats, maybe not!

Sulman, I def remember that cat remark...not too thrilled about the prospects of a catwoman or mr. freeze storyline. What other villains are there? Does anybody remember that mud-like villain? I remember him being pretty formidable.
