I am going to be truthful, I really do not know a whole lot of issues that Senator Obama supports. What is his plan for getting out of Iraq, how is he going to fix our ailing economy, and does his youthful and ideal character have a whole lot more promise than action?
Also, do you think he is being too politically correct by not have firm stances on financing his campaign and the most recent controversial ruling on DC uplifting its ban on guns?

obama's campaign has been built on vague promises, and he has never had concrete positions on anything, he was riding his popularity on his promise of change all the way to the democratic nomination and eventually to the presidency...its why i supported hillary, at least with her, we knew what she was pushing, with obama, who knows

While I am not Obama's biggest fan, he has not been nearly as vague as people make him out to be. Check out his website for all his platforms if you are interested. Stated very clearly right there. The guy is a hope for a better America in theory, but he is not above the politics as some people assume. He is a politician, plain and simple.

Now, since it is between Obama and McCain, the easy choice for me is Obama. But I wish there were more radical people on the ballot than Obama. He is not nearly as liberal as some people assume. You know, its funny...whenever a democrat runs for presidency, he becomes "the most liberal senator/congressman/governor/mayor/whatever in the democratic party." Just a smear tactic by the right to make the candidate seem revolutionary, or a threat to the white man. Same reason Obama has been called a Muslim, America-hating, gay, terrorist, socialist radical. Sad thing is, people believe this garbage (not that there is anything wrong with being Muslim, gay, socialist). You just have to throw some crap out there and hope some of it will stick on the wall, and it does.

This is the reason Obama's staff told 2 Muslim women to not sit behind him during a rally in Detroit...they were scared people would associate him further with Islam. I do not see Obama getting elected come the fall because enough of the nation is prejudiced enough, and confused enough to say "hmm...my neighbor told me this Hussein guy doesnt wear a flag pin, so I'm not gonna vote for him", completely ignoring the issues.

Obama is black by what America classifies him as. If you are mixed, you are automatically classified under the minority group because America does not see your lineage as pure. If he were to walk into a room, he is going to be treated as/looked at as a black man, not a "mulatto", just as people of mixed ancestry were considered slaves and fell under the Jim Crow laws.

one of the biggest issues for me in this campaign is health care reform, as i will be going into that field, and i had to do a presentation on obama's position, and it was so wishy washy and non-specific, as compared to hillary's that it just really turned me off on him. i think he will be a great candidate, but i think he would have been better served running in 4 years, where he would have been able to fight off his ignorant detractors and establish his own very specific political identity instead of being seen as that black guy.

Its just not that they were Muslims...they were full-on HIJABIs...
After the episode in Detroit last week, Mr. Obama telephoned the two Muslim women to apologize. ?I take deepest offense to and will continue to fight against discrimination against people of any religious group or background,? he said in a statement.
-CNN
pshhhhht

Yes people will believe anything the media says but only 10% of the population believe he is Muslim...

not many of you are Muslims but...His campaign refused to associate with any Muslim community. he has visited churches and synagogues but yet has not made an appearance to a mosque. The Muslims and the Arab-American have tried repeatedly to arrange a meeting...but gave them excuses. He actually made arrangements with Congressman Ellison but canceled because it might stir controversy. it is frustrating as a Muslim...He needs to realize he is losing votes by ignoring...

Most of the Muslim community is still voting for him...but then they all voted for Bush (1st time around)

keep in mind that majority of the voters are WHITE-MALE mostly in their early60s...GO VOTE! whoever it is just GO VOTE.

Ooo, there are more on the ballot than Obama and McCain

Please note that this was done by two volunteers, not high-level campaign staffers who planned this out. The volunteers did what they thought was best, which was obviously the wrong thing to do. The fact that he apologized and discussed it with them is more than a lot of candidates would have done.

Also keep in mind that despite his pro-Israel stances, he's one of the few politicians who openly supports dialogue with Mid-East nations, including Iran.

I think he has a solid track record with regard to religion. He's a politician, no question, but I think he also 'gets it' and I'm willing to risk that he's just politicking now to get elected vs. McCain whose religious fervosity changes weekly (but is consistently towards the conservative)

To me, Obama is the only clear choice. McCain offers nothing to me that I didn't have with Bush. McCain has come out finally about global warming and its effects, and what kind of stuff we need to do. His stance on Iraq has not changed, and is a continuation of Bush's policies. I'm not basing this on what Obama says about it, but what McCain says. We squandered, atleast, a trillion dollars on this war. Imagine that money going to things like, alternative fuels, health care, education, and other things the country actually needs.

Compared to the 2004 election, Obama is far better than Kerry. Kerry was weak, and long winded...and he reminded me of a horse. And not a reliable horse either. This time around, Obama offers an alternative, and hopefully it works out in the end. I liked Clinton, but she failed to appeal to me. I care little for her foreign policy on dealing with Iran and other rogue states.

As a political science major, if we don't start talking to our enemies, nothing will come of it. Not talk to Iran will just hurt us in the end. We talked to the Soviet Union and China...why not now?!

I'm hearing Bobby Jindal might become a possible Vice President? WTF. In my opinion, this guy is a sellout for 1.) he is embarassed of going back to his village in his Punjab, and 2.)He proudly converted to Christianity. But that's just my opinion. What do you guys think?

There's talk of Bobby being selected as a VP choice for McCain, but it'd be a dumb move. The man is 36, and McCain is 72....the ads write themselves. I would say he's a sell out in that he doesn't accept his Indian culture at all, but I wouldn't call him a sell out because he converted to Christianity. It's good for him to believe in his own religion, I believe he converted when he was a child or so, and he was going to private Catholic schools and such. He found his own path to God, but it's an interesting path he took nonetheless.

Either way, Bobby is a bad move to take. He may be conservative, but where's his appeal? If McCain were to choose someone for VP, it should be someone closer to the party. Although I can't stand Romney, he'd make an ok bet for McCain. Romney knows more about the economy, and it'd be balance out the ticket more. At the same time, McCain can't stand Romney too much, and I can't stand either of them.

For Obama, he has too many options. He can go with Chuck Hagel (a maverick Republican...more independent than anything else), Clinton (i don't like this move, but women seem to want it), governors of either Arizona (a woman) or New Mexico (a hispanic), Joe Biden (kinda crazy, but i like his ideas on foreign policy)...I seem to have forgotten a name or two...but really, he has a long list.

Harman your post makes no sense to me.

You validify the staff of Obama telling two muslims not to sit in the front row. You claim that ignorance of the American people might be the downfall of Obama's comaign. But yet, the justification that you gave (people might assoication him with muslims) is quite possibly the most ignorant thing you have said.

If I udnerstand you correctly, the way to combat ignorance, is to side step the issue and play to the ignorant people of America?
]
What Obama's campaign did, is funamentally, and caterogircally more ignorant, or just as ignorant as the Americans who assoicate him with being a muslim. To deny two females basic seating rights, because fear of assoication, has degraded us back to civil rights days with Rosa Parks. In Plessy v Furgeson, why was the separation of black v white carts so problematic? Because Homer Plessey, a man 1/8th black, was too embrassing for whites to be assoicated with.

As a PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE, as a man who is to run our country, to sit there and allow your staff to do something so disgusting, for the simple fact to please the IGNORANT people of America is appalling. The fact you can sympathsize with his staff's actions makes you as ignorant as them. I understand your running a campaign, and the ignorant vote is valued as much as the educated vote, but what kind of message does this send to the country who will be dependent on you to be neutral and have their best interests in mind. IT IS MIND BOGGLING how someone can justify that. Please do your best Harman.

These holy spirit that surrounds Obama is ignorant. I support Obama , because I think he is the lesser of two evils, but this guy and his staff are clearly a bunch of douche bags. Whether its this act, or Obama's staff labelling Hilirary Clinton as "D-Punjab" at an Indian event (claiming that she is the democractic nominee from punjab) is disgusting. This guy needs to clean up his staff's bullshit tactics. McCain looks scott free when it comes to race relations. Its only the negative assoication of being a WASP WASP Republican and a friend of George Bush that makes people apprehensive.

Obama is using the foot-in-door method people. I have faith in the guy. Things are just being misconstrued. Remember when his pastor was speaking out against America? Remember when Obama didn't really comment on what Jeremiah said? Remember when they targeted Obama's wife because she spoke some truth abour america? I honestly think Obama has to put up a front to sell himself. To get his "foot in the door". He is not a white man with blue eyes, he does not appeal to everyone as a World leader. To white america, Obama is a black man. That is the fact of the matter. I don't care if he's half white. He is an underdog. I dont think the muslim population should blame Obama for removing the two women wearing hijabs from the backdrop of his rally. Like someone said earlier, it was the doing of a few of the volunteers. Not obama. Probably wasn't the smartest move because muslims account for much of the population. All im saying is, give this guy a chance. Sure he may sound vague, but I dont believe he's clearly manifesting his position on many issues in order to secure a role as the president. Again, like someone said, he is a politician. "ITS ALL POLITICS!" - Kramer

p.s. on a lighter note.........I LOVE CANADA <3
