Re: Desi Dhamaka 2010 New Format

Personally, I don't like the idea... because like someone said earlier, if the teams do 2 diff routines, everyones going to have to prepare and practice 2 different routines, which would subtract from the quality of the routine were they to practice 1 for this comp. And all except two won't be able to perform...

If they'd be doing the same routine twice, i dont see the point of that... Because the 2nd time around i doubt would be as good as the first, and i don't think that the audience would want to see the same thing twice.

Thas my opinion atleast.

come on guys..I seen teams come in and give there all and want to go back one more time right after to dance again. It may sound tiring...But once your up on that stage you get this gush of adrenline..Am I wrong..I agree it tough to compare fusion and bhangra. Thats why there will be cash prizes for the individual category, but for the fusion vs bhangra it will be a trophy..
yes.. u are very wrong. theres no way a team can give it their all once and then go right back on stage and give the same caliber performance again.

i dno as cool as that idea sounds...i just don't see how you can compare a bhangra performance to a fusion dance performance...two completely different styles of dancing that require their own set of skills to master in order to do it well

as for cutting the routine to 4-5 minutes...that might be ok because the dancers can go even harder because there's to do in the routine and they can use more energy, but at the same time, doing bhangra for 8-10 minutes is a challenge in itself and stamina is a huge part of bhangra...

i dont like the idea bc of endurance. dancers will be able to go a full 8 mins at 110%. after the cool down, and just battling for a trophy, doing the same routine again... i wouldn't be as pumped. the average dancer wont be able to do 2 full performances all out in one night. plus, if the last team to perform from bhangra won and went against the first team to perform in fusion, that wouldn't be fair for stamina either.

cool idea, just not feasible

Well essentially BOB sort of does this already.

Scrap the Fusion.

Keep it Folk. Keep it Bhangra.

Performing another full routine sounds like a fun challenge to me, but I don't think it's feasible.

Instead, I have an idea for an alternative which should be fun, challenging, and feasible from everyone's perspective -- teams, audience, and organizers alike...

THE CHALLENGE:

One at a time, the winning team from each category is given 30 seconds or a full minute to do anything they like on stage (within legal limits). As soon as the time ends, the team is required to be silent for ~20 seconds, during which time the sound level in the venue is monitored, and the peak value recorded. Basically, the team which receives the loudest response earns the trophy.

This type of challenge would push each team to think creatively about how to best display their collective talent in a short amount of time in order to produce the greatest "WOW" factor amongst the audience. For example, a team could win the challenge by dancing, playing instruments, singing, performing stunts and/or acrobatics, or showcasing their strength, energy, or grace. The whole team would not be required to participate. The team could even pick just one of their members to perform a solo act.

To see one my personal favorite ways to get the crowd going, watch this video from 10:10...

It wouldn't work....say a local team wins their category.....they would win it regardless of what they do in the 'battle'.....they would have more crowd support.

It's really just a more interesting way of giving out a "viewer's choice award"... so maybe it could just be a separate trophy after/before the placings have been announced.

Yeah, that was my intention. The phrase "viewer's choice award" just escaped me at the time, lol.

Yeah, that's the only problem...

But consider this variation for judging viewer's choice: Stream it live online, so all you BTFers can view it and then caste votes to decide the winner... That should reduce most of the bias.

I bet the winner would be a write-in vote even if the team wasnt at the competition.

5 fusion teams and 5 bhangra teams in the same competition is fine. But cancel on the overall competition and just keep 2 separate competitions, same night same venue.

+Make sure you have separate judges

I don't think the audience really cares for all this extra drama and hype... people just wanna come see some awesome dances

It's a performance/show night, not a television series or game show, ya knw?

Keep it simple ;)
