i would not want to learn dhol from these videos

1. there is no complete breakdown
2. no really clear explaining on what each hit means .. da .. na ..etc.
3. he just starts playing like in 1:35 first vid... most people are not even going to know whats going on lol


howtoplaydhol on youtube .. that guy explains everthing and takes time to make the videos soo people can learn it properly. i feel like hes just making them and not really taking the time to actually explain every little detail .. and actually slow things down for a new starter.

on the + side his dhol looks really nice ... sounds really nice .. and he plays very well

I don't think playing dhol at full speed while singing, without explaining the beat, its name, or any other instructional information can be called a "lesson". I just checked out http://www.youtube.com/howtoplaydhol per the previous post and that makes a lot more sense-- he includes the name, the breakdown of Dha, Na, Ge, etc-- neither of which the OP video shows.

Also the video production team took their part way too seriously, again showing that this is someone's project (someone got a new camera and editing software?) and not focused on education. I hope it gets better and more structured, without a 30 seconds volcano exploding intro and a never-stopping camera that zooms to his face and feet or whatever.

I'm totally loving these videos because the dhol sound is crisp and the beats are awesome! However, I do agree with Saleem that these are not really lessons. The videos themselves are sweet, but I wouldnt call them lessons. I personally learned how to play dhol watching how to videos and then just aiming to copy random dhol player videos. However if you are aiming to have these videos as lessons, you shouuld really have beat breakdowns, and start really slow, possibly separate the tilli and dagga side individually, then put them together slowly for a minute then slowly speed up. Someone who wants to learn how to play dhol honestly can't really learn to play dhol following these videos :-/

It's unclear as to why this lesson happens from the middle of what appears to be a pretty nice bathroom. It begs the question, what were you doing in there when you thought, "hey, i should record a dhol lesson", but awesome video nonetheless!

can't really get better than how to play dhol. i came across harry's vids and thought he was a great dhol player, but the vids aren't really helpful for beginners. how to play dhol doesnt really cover traditional beats, so harry if you see this, help us all out!
