DHOL QUESTION - Hooks or String?

Hey Guys

I had a quick dhol question….what is the main difference between a dagga side held into space and tightened by strings, or to have it held in place with hooks and tightened by hooks?


Is there a big difference between the two? Does it by any means change the quality of sound?

I am in India looking for a dhol and other specifications that any of you can suggest?

Its not the difference in sound, its how well you can keep it tuned. Tuneing a drum head that is bolted requires constant tightening, while with string, you can easily loosen up the skin so you don't have to tighten as much the next time you use it. Pretty simple
