Dhol Tilli Question

So I've seen a couple of dholi's that have something at the end of their tilli? Do the tilli's come like that, or do you add something onto the end? I just recently saw something like that in a pic of nana playing dhol...anyone know what that is?

some people put tape, some have string i think its to make it heavier at da bottom not sure tho

oh gotcha. yeah i heard about the string and then they burn it at the end to make it harder- just not sure what type of string to use...or if that would even work.

Just to add on, another reason I've seen is just to stop the end from splitting.

uhmm...you can try nylon string, and i use electrical, or scotch tape, sometimes even hockey tape. It doesn't weight the tilli as much! But it's mostly used for preventing tilli's from splitting at the ends!
