dj equipment packages

i want to buy some dj equipment but dont want to spend tht much money so i was looking at some dj packages... which ones of these are better? if theres any other packages tht u know plz post thanx.... my budget right know is $400.

All you need is a laptop, Serato and a mixer.

Jabars right ..... buy a used serato box and find a cheap mixer (can get one at like $100 used easy). then eventuall save up for turntables n shii.

dont bother with those systems, its not worth it. wait til you save up. to actually get a system which will be able to last for a decent amount of time and be relatively versatile you gotta save up atleast 1000 MINIMUM, to 2000 to get a pretty basic system which you can use at any party and truly have a good performance

Id say to buy a beginner set (decks + mixer combo/all in one) for now.. you can get a good one for like 300 - 400 just to see if your serious about dj'ing. Use that basic set to get some small gigs (rent speakers) and make money. If your still into it use your gig money to buy yourself a better system... no point in spending 2 grand if your gonna end up losing interest in a year. I got a friend whos running a succesful sound crew with a basic beginner decks and rented speakers and hes doing real well.

It will bite you in the ass later on, just save money and go check out the djforums for suggestions on what the best buy for your budget would be.

I disagree..


I wanted to start DJ-ing so what I did was I went on e-bay and bought a pair of Numark TT turntables, with a Numark amp for about $350. One of my boys let me borrow his Serato SL1 box Mon-Fri while he was in school and didn't need it for his gigs. It's a preatty crappy set up but it taught me the basics of beatmatching, dropping in tracks, taking them out, working the crossfader, scratching, etc. Granted you cant do as much on Numarks as you could on Technics MK5, its still a set up for a cheap price.


My mentality on the situation was this. If I bought cheap equipment and didn't really get into becoming a DJ too seriously, then I wouldnt feel guilty letting $350 worth of equipment sit in my garage unused. But if I spent $1000-$1500 on a good set up and didn't get into DJ-ing then I would be annoyed. The resale value on this type of equipment is good, but like any commodity a used item is still a used item..it is going to depreciate in value.


Now that I have been practicing and I know this is something I want to pursue I dont mind selling this set up for $100-$150 and putting it towards a good set up because I know that I WILL use that set up and the money I spend on good equipment wont go to waste.


Oh and P.S. don't get any of that DJ simulation shit that looks like a toy. Get the real deal get some turntables, mixer, and Serato (or Traktor if you want to use MIDI)
