no effort of even changing the mix, he just puts it on youtube and gives no credit to the people who worked hard on the mix. really dont like people like this :/

Maybe that person just meant to promote the song/mix. All of my Soundcloud music is bits from mixes or songs (I don't know how to make mixes), but I do always make sure to give full credit to whoever made the mix or what team it is from- basically providing as much information about the original producer/team as possible.

wowwww.....i just happened to come across this post and looked at his fb page. He took the mix I MADE and posted on BTF and labeled it as his own. He even cut out the beginning of the mix with the tags I put in there.

A part of me is pissed about it, but then again, is it really worth it to say anything to him? He's probably on BTF if he found the mixes that he's claiming as his own. It's one guy in toronto who really wants to call himself a "DJ" so I guess if he's using my mixes to say he's a DJ, its a compliment to me...right?

Honestly you can take it either way.

Personally I don't think there's a need to get angry about it. I understand the emotion, but it just takes too much energy to be pissed/angry.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so it is a compliment.

If you want to have a good balance of both, maybe you can bring it up to him (in a non-confrontational manner) that it is your mix and ask if he can give you some sort of shoutout.

Kanye doesn't do a song without a sample. I think its fine if a team takes 5 different mixes and does a mega mix and dances to it. Who is gonna stop them?

As a side note, using existing mixes is just another layer of effort in the process (instruments->songs->mixes->remixes). It's totally fine, I think where people have the issue is:

1) Not attributing any credit to the original mixers
2) The scale of the reuse. For instance I noticed CMU's mix from last spring was used wholly unedited from start to finish. That is fundamentally different then taking a particular song you thought was mixed well.

Neither point is particularly offensive, but both together is what is irking people I think. The truth is it's not worth any effort or frustration, so if you hear something, simply leave a polite and professional comment on the youtube video and that really should be enough.
