I'm curious, I personally prefer it to music any day, but what does everyone else prefer?

I prefer it but only when it's well executed and when I want to fall
In love with the art form again. On days that I want to just be entertained I prefer music :)

Perhaps the poll should be re-worded to smth like, "Majority of the time, do you prefer live bhangra over music?". Include the assumption that execution is all fine and good.

Absolutely agree. I don't think some people can appreciate how much live bhangra is an art form and that there is so much to learn from bhangra than simply choreo/

Who doesn't? Lol, but I prefer music sets. Either way live is crazy. I mean I'm sure mostly everyone on a bhangra team knows "steps". --> it's much easier to copy and learn a live set than a music's set, but who can execute the way a live team does? Even if the moves are basic the execution in a good live set shits all over any music sets. Live sets are actually pretty crazy. It's all just simple steps, but all the simple bhangra steps are hard hitting moves. Just goes to show how intense bhangra, on it's own, truly is.

first time i saw live done live was at BAB 2, nj warriors, dcmpaa, babc, 3D, totally blew my mind, that was the happiest ive ever been watching a comp. live is just more complex than music, dhol beats, chimta, a variety of amazing boliyan, and energetic and well paced dancing. i love the way live sets are put together and the overall pace of the sets, live sets never seem rushed like music sets can seem, and you get to savor each segment. i also feel like the pace of live sets allows dancers to really emphasize each and every movement and its always sick when the dancers become a part of the music with the hois and the lalkaray. i love the way nakhra hits hard in live sets too. recently, nj waris boston set was definitely my favorite set of the comp.

also with respect to the empire conversation, i think they have some of the most versatile dancers, i'm pretty sure a few of them have also danced for live teams.

forgot to mention how much i love hearing live singing, especially when the singer really gets into the performance and amps up the dancers.

I live for live dhol sets. But you already knew that, Jordan. :)

The dhol just speaks to the dancer so much more than a recorded music set, which is mostly chaal with few and abrupt tempo changes. From the variety and complexity of the beats to fluid tempo dynamics (which are essential for creating an enjoyable set), live dhol just has so much more to offer.

Sometimes it's hard to really appreciate live sets until you actually do it yourself. Then you might begin to realize what you've been missing in your life. I'm serious.

What's great about live sets is that if you actually listen to and can understand the boliyaan, a story is being told. For music sets we tend to choose songs that sound good and, music-wise, may flow well together. But for live, there is more of a lyrical flow.

And dancing to a live set or to malwai giddha is incomparable. I believe that one's true passion for bhangra can be explored via dancing to a dhol and various stringed and wind instruments.
