There is a competition allegedly happening Saturday January 16th named Declaration of Bhangra. Apparently 8 teams are set to compete, but no one knows where. The venue hasn't been announced? That's because the venue hasn't been booked as of yet. Judges, liaisons, committee, sponsors...none of those exist. The "committee" is 3 girls that once attended drexel but now all live in California doing close to nothing to make all this happen. Who knows if this competition will happen or not, but this is just a warning to all teams that applied. I know teams have already paid there dues, but If I were you I would ask for a refund.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: THIS USER IS POSTING FROM AN IP THAT WAS BANNED UNTIL VERY RECENTLY FOR TROLLING. THE CLAIMS MAY BE TRUE, I HAVE NO CLUE, BUT THIS IP DOESN'T HAVE A GOOD TRACK RECORD OF BEING LEVEL HEADED AND TRUTHFUL. PLEASE GET MORE EVIDENCE AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.

I back this thread. Im not saying that the competition will or will not happen, but the "committee" had recently contacted a friend of mine asking for assistance in finding a venue.

I hope everything works out for the teams.

This is highly concerning for us as a competing team. I can confirm that DOB did communicate venue (Drexel University's main auditorium) and judges were announced to us as well. I would hope both of these details were solidified before notifying teams. That said, I can also confirm that there has been a lack of communication and transparency from DOB post-acceptance. People have already booked flights (!!), called out from work and have family and friends committed to attending from out of town. We're three weeks out from the show. Would appreciate someone from the DOB committee addressing this post and providing some clarity asap.

As far as judging goes, the committee selected one of our dancers who is competing with us that weekend. We had to make it clear to committee so that situation could be avoided. I agree with Reeda, transparency is important especially when the competition is three weeks away.

Where you at DOB

Very easy to announce a venue, but there is no evidence of one being booked. If you have any doubts please call drexel University to confirm.

It's a shame, the line-up looked solid too. Maybe BATB can help even though its not happening anymore- they might have some contacts in Philly?

I have zero familiarity with this competition. I hope the board members from the competition come forward and discuss these points. Let's keep in mind though that these allegations are initially coming from an anonymous, new user. It would be good to have some credibility to that name when you come forward with such allegations. Hope that this is addressed quickly and clearly by the competition staff. Please everybody on the thread, keep a level head. Unless Anil Prasad is on the committee, then forget everything I said

Added a moderator's note after I logged in and saw that the OP, ricky299, is posting from IP that we've twice banned for trolling and garbage. Keep that in mind in this conversation, please. Get the evidence, whether it's for or against the competition's preparedness, and make your own judgments. Thanks.

For the teams who bought flight tickets and reserved non refundable hotel rooms, BETTER CALL SAUL

Here's a number to an actual Philadelphia law firm:

The Pearce Law Firm, P.C.
215-557-8686

Enjoy :)

The Declaration of Bhangra Committee would like to apologize for the delayed reply. The holiday season is not one that we particularly spend online constantly checking Bhangra Teams Forum but we would like to clear up all the misconceptions. First off and most importantly this competition is taking place; there was never a point where not holding this event was ever an option. Teams and numerous other people have invested countless amount of time and energy to prepare for this event; therefore, the committee would never disregard their efforts.

The committee initially reserved the venue months ago but after a few technical difficulties through the university, we had decided to take help from a local bhangra team to reserve venues. Unfortunately this kind gesture was short lived as the team notified us that they actually “could not” help and dropped as exhibition. Shortly after receiving this news we were made aware of a post on BTF from a member who was coincidentally on that same local team. As a first year competition, we were completely blindsided by this situation but immediately did everything to resolve the issue. Everyone is aware of the difficulties of planning a Bhangra competition but having these setbacks exposed publicly online is not helping the situation in any way. The committee has this situation under control so there is no reason for teams to be concerned and distracted from preparing their routines. We genuinely apologize for the alarm. We would like to confirm that the committee has always had back up options in the case that anything went wrong and are currently waiting for offices to reopen after the holiday week to finalize the logistics before ticket sales can officially begin.

The other allegations made by the initial individual will not even be addressed with a response, as they are incomprehensible. We would, however, like to thank this individual for the added publicity. The DOB committee is looking forward for you all to join us for a fun filled weekend designed to bring together individuals who share a passion for Bhangra, not ones who attack others online through fake accounts and false allegations. Also to the individual who decided to email Drexel University for confirmation, we just wanted to notify you that normally there is no reservation found for an event the week after it has already taken place, but we are eagerly waiting for you to post your response

We completely understand the concern that has arisen over these allegations, but considering the lack of evidence they are invalid and we hope the rest of the BTF community takes that into consideration if something like this were to happen in the future. We would like to apologize for all the commotion over this holiday weekend and hope this post can settle concerns.

Lastly regarding the law firm contact listed above, we would like the teams to know they will not need to invest their time and money for such unnecessary actions, but this number will definitely come in handy for the committee. Since a public service announcement was the purpose of this post, we’d like to offer the creator of this post one for the new year: Making false allegations against an individual, especially ones constituted of theft, and publishing them on a public platform without any legitimate evidence is classified as defamation of character, in which case real legal action can be taken. Before using the Internet to anonymously and publicly post false accusations, please consider all the repercussions of your actions.

We wish you all a great holiday season and look forward to meeting you all at Declaration of Bhangra!

Hello everyone,

I am captain of the local bhangra team, Drexel University Bhangra, who was in contact with the committee for Declaration of Bhangra, and I just wanted to help clarify a couple things. I did try my best in trying to help them reserve the spaces they were having trouble with. However, I was not able to reserve spaces for a variety of reasons including the fact that contracts and prior planning had to have been done to make it possible. It could not be done a month prior to the actual date of the competition, especially during the holiday time. That does not mean that there is no venue for the competition; I am sure that the committee had back-up plans for potential locations to host the competition events knowing the possible difficulties that could arise with the reservations I was trying to help with.

Regarding our exhibition, we never agreed and applied for an exhibition performance. After two to three months of waiting for an exhibition application, by the time we got one, we had already made plans to perform at another competition around that time. I wish we could have performed since we are a Philly team, but, unfortunately, it just could not work out.

However, I agree with some points made in the previous post. Posts regarding misinformed and potentially false allegations should not be trusted. We have no affiliation with the one who made the original post. I am confident that the committee will have a successful competition. I, along with many other bhangratastic fans in Philadelphia and around the world are super excited, and cannot wait to see bhangra epicness :D Happy holidays!
