As we just passed groundshaker and bhangra idols is coming up- i'm curious to know what teams do to prep up for a competition...especially the week before.

Does everyone just zone in, eat certain things, watch tons of bhangra videos, practice more, etc??

1) make sure uniforms are all in order (ironed, all there, all accessories present, paggan starched, pins, makeup, etc)
2) practice a lot
3) record practices and see what everyone is doing wrong and work on those parts
4) bring in someone outside with bhangra knowledge that you trust to offer critiques
5) make sure travel arrangements are set
6) prepare sobTV interview questions :)

good topic!

How close to an event should paggs be starched? We did it the night before, but that's cutting it close!

DO:
1. Eat right and continue to maintain a degree of fitness (ie: run)
2. Practice a lot but make sure you're increasing your stamina.
3. Keep MORALE up! Your team should not hate you the week before a competition nor should they hate themselves because you critiqued them so hard.
4. Often times, with bhangra on your mind, you tend to forget about your other priorities. Continue up with that.

DO NOT:
1. Watch videos of OTHER teams that will be competing to measure up your chances of placing.
2. Get a vasectomy
3. Kill your team members (Spartan philosophy can sometimes be self-defeating)

And BTW, Good to see you Vik on BTF! We have 1/2 the team up here now!

DO:

1. do stretch like a mofo

DO NOT:

1. dont randomly do a hard power lifting workout at the gym a couple days before
2. dont be drunk or high or do anything stupid that can jeopardize your safety leading up to a competition.

also; health insurance :) (lali joher gabbar LOL)

DO:
  • Eat well.
  • Rest well.
DO NOT:
  • Engage in any intense physical activity during the week leading up to a competition. Any hardcore all-out practices and workouts designed to increase strength or stamina should ideally be terminated by then because they are actually counterproductive in that time frame.

do about 10 to 15 mins on the treadmill everyday (dont go too fast tho...at a decent speed and steady)
drink water!!!! lots of it too.
pump yourself up everyday...(i.e look in the mirror and tell yourself...your ready!)
Talk to your teammates and pump them up too...share the love!! =D

STOP drinking/smoking etc the week of the comp...it'll help you... a lot.

Friday Night Preparty:
Some people might think "ohh hey i'll have a few drinks" thats the biggest mistake. even after 2/3 drinks your throat takes a beating. so what happens is the next day on stage your struggling for breath because your throat is dried up... even drinking a lot of water the next morning after a heavy/light drinking night does not make too much of a difference.

Sleep enough... there is no way your body will be able to be 100% the next morning if you don't get proper sleep...

next one is a lot easier said than done:
have the mentality of "ok we got this far... practed this hard... sacrificed so much... do not throw it away in the last week/on the last day" ...

Always have an extra person to VIDEOTAPE you run through at dress rehersal... take time to view YOURSELF and see positioning from an audience point of view.

Ideally, last week of practice should be for polishing the set in my opinion. Practices should involve run through but maybe one per night max. If you haven't built up the stamina by now, the last week won't help. Stamina takes weeks to develop so don't go all out and having extreme long practice that just pisses off the whole team.

Be happy, all the hard work is about to pay off at the end of the week.

Drink water, hydrating your body for the performance.

Keep up with school work because school > bhangra

Make sure all props, outfits, travel arrangements are set.

And rest! Nothing can replace sleep.

Absolutely. Health insurance is a must. Should you not have health insurance, you may be in grave danger.

don't get wasted at the pre-party
don't stay up to late(get some sleep)
Help teams out while you are getting ready if you are all set(some teams are new or need help because they arrived at the venue late)
be respectful
