Hi everyone. I am the captain of the Duniya Allstars girls team. I could not be at the competition last night (have a 3 week old baby at home) but like a lot of you watched Notorious Bhangra livestream. I just wanted to clear something up... Duniya did not go live last night. Our music did in fact stop and the girls just kept going (something they are trained to do if there are breaks in music). Unfortunately, the music never came back on and they finished the routine to dhol. Thank you to everyone who helped them out. We understand that sound/technical difficulties happen at competitions. Needless to say, the girls are having a blast in California at Notorious.
Here is my fb status from this morning: The Duniya Allstar girls worked extremely hard, with myself, for the Notorious Bhangra 2012 competition in Cali that took place last night. Unfortunately something went wrong with their music during their performance and they had to do more than half of their routine to dhol beats. Thank you to the two dholis who stepped in last minute to help them out with a beat to dance to (Sumit from Cobra Bhangra jumped in, last minute, from sidestage when the music stopped and Amar from SGPD agreed to play dhol the day before the comp for the girls and thank god they did so the girls had a beat!). I am so proud b/c even though the girls had not ever practiced on dhol for this comp, (only music), they kept going and still killed it. They were given the opportunity to go again, but as a team they decided to only be judged on the first performance with no music because they were worried about their spirit on stage the 2nd time around (its just not the same rush as the first exp). They performed a 2nd time around for the audience only (not to be judged). In my opinion they did better the 2nd time with their music playing (of course). It was clean and they hit all their jumps and squats. BUT to make it clear they were only judged the first time, without their music, dancing to dhol only (that was never practiced). It is incredible to me that they placed THIRD at this competition with no music and with an 11 girl team as one girl got badly injured the day before competition! I've never seen this before. In my eyes, they were number 1 (to me personally) last night, just because they didn't even flinch and they kept going and finished the routine with no music. Proud of you team. Duniya Allstars.
CONGRATULATIONS to the teams who placed 1st and 2nd... in no way would ever take that away from you. Those were well deserved victories. I just wanted to publicly display how proud
I am of my team
