What category is this comp (traditional, semi-traditional, modern)? And is it a youth competition?

i think what she means is, are you guys a traditional competiion whos judges are going to be traditional, where traditionailty in the dance plays a big role (ex. dhol di awaz) or are you guys a modern comp, as in, you dont really care if a team performs a fasala or a phumaniya properly and formations and wow factors are something your looking for (ex. boston bhangra)

yes that is what I was referring to when I was asking what "kind"/"category" the competition it is. thanks for expanding on what I was trying to ask.

OH so sorry for the confusion!

judges will be looking for the traditional steps to be in the set and the clarity of them.. so it will be a traditionally judged competition!

hope that helps! :)

I believe Gursewak Bhaji (PGE Coach) and Team India Dancer @ Nation (2006) is holding the competition. It certainly will be a traditionally judged competition if that's the case.

The only thing that concerns me is the date as it's closer to the finals. Regardless, I can see some big name teams apply to this competition. Good Luck to everyone who is organizing it first time ever in Edmonton. Time to visit my in-laws. ;D

"modern comp, as in, you dont really care if a team performs a fasala or a phumaniya properly and formations and wow factors are something your looking for (ex. boston bhangra)"

We just read this comment, and we would beg to differ on your perception of Boston Bhangra. Wow factor, formations and dance elements are certainly important, but so is doing traditional Bhangra steps. Our judges do look for fasala and phumaniya and doing these moves properly, however, we do expect teams to bring more than just traditional bhangra steps to our competition. Modern doesn't mean we don't care about Bhangra, because I can tell you that we do. However, we look for more than just that.

Oh no i didnt mean any disrespect by what i said, when i thought of a modern comp, boston was the first to come to my head. What I meant is basically modern comps= bringing a wow factor with formations, gimmicks and being entertaining is a heavy part on the rubric (relative to traditional comps), but that doesnt go to say that traditional steps arnt accounted for.
