I don't think ABC got shafted because I don't think they had a clear cut reason to get a bid over APD/Empire. As people stated, Empire got exposure and APD got trophies. You can't say ABC got shafted unless you think they got more trophies at bigger competitions than APD (and Empire too)(which they didn't) or got more exposure than Empire (which they didn't).

Nonetheless, Elite 8 has a history of redeeming teams the next year over. I'm sure if either APD/Empire has a lackluster semester and ABC continues what they do, Elite 8 will look their way for 2012. We've seen it happen with Virsa, PCBCA and APD. Anyone want to bid on ABC for Elite 8 2012?

completely agree with kinnell. abc will def get the bid for 2012. also, im pretty sure pcbca was 3rd behind panj, and then ava, and apd wouldve been at elite last yr except they couldnt for w/e reason. all im saying is that there are a lot of factors outside of actually getting an invite compared to actually attending the competition

it dont matter about who got more trophies or what. abc got shafted! id like to see empire or apd go against sgpd and place right behind em. no offense to empire or apd but ive never seen bhangra like that. lol they need to learn how the fundamentals of real bhangra.. like fixing there jugni asap or there jhummer. hate all you want on abc, but there doing big things and they dance waaaaaaaayyyy better then apd and empire.. lol

Who is hating on ABC?

Anyway, I no longer dance for Empire so by no means is this response in defense of anything or anyone. But this whole argument of "that's not real Bhangra"... "I've never seen that type of 'bhangra' "... "They're lacking folk aspects" etc. etc. is tired. They do not have a folk style because THEY DON'T WANT TO. Nor do they aspire to ever be more like a traditional team. They found a perfect niche in the bhangra scene and they're sticking to it... and guess what?? It's worked for them.

There are plenty of great teams from ALL over NA but only two teams get a spot from their region. A handful of teams were in a sense "shafted" but there's always next year. Everyone just needs to have a better spirit about it.

Following up to Avneet's comment about Empire sticking to it's niche, that's exactly right. We do it because we enjoy it and it works for us. Nearly half of the active Empire roster consists of dancers that have danced on traditional or "live" teams like Virsa de Waris, Davis di Dynasty, teams in India, etc. Just keep that in mind LTB for the next time you make ignorant comments like "they need to learn the fundamentals of real bhangra." :)

ABC, keep doin your thing. Good things will happen! :D

yeah people need to stop hatin on empire. just caus they arent executing like a live team doesnt mean they should get any less respect for winning the comps that they do. if they went somewhere where traditionality was a bigger part of the rubric and move execution done in a traditional way, im sure their style wouldnt be able to hold down. however, for every other competition, im pretty sure they get like 100% of all the other points, which in the end, wins.

some live teams are messy as hellllll and have a lazy dancer or a mess up here or there but may get full traditional points but when it comes to the rest of the rubric eh i dont think anyone can match up to empire.

and abc is sickk does anyone know if they got an invite they may have turned it down? but either way, as good as they are, apd and empire have both competed more and won more, not saying apd/empire is better, but quantity wise i think recently they have upper hand.

Hi Sumeet, nice to meet you! Isn't the rubric for elite more traditional than not? I think it's more important to spread the culture and perform for the audience, no matter what the rubric.

I think that everyone on btf or who has performed can relate, as it is the one common theme that binds all of us together as a community, right?

There are very few Empire "haters". It is a boogeyman people have created. Look at any thread about Empire there are 1 or 2 random people who say stupid stuff, the rest defend Empire to the death.

Also, my only thing with Empire is not about "real bhangra" it is that their choreography is simple, repetitive and could be executed by the vast majority of dancers on bhangra teams...the same cannot be said about teams like Rooh Punjab Di and Heeray. Things like grace and fluid movement is not in an Empire performance.

That really is not hate, it is personal preference. Empire can keep doing their thing, best of luck to them. But lets not make them out to be victims of hate...they are probably the most defended/beloved team on this forum.
