Fuck yea! Brrruuuuaah VCU! ;D

I'm glad Gabroo TV is going, at least now there will be legit videos of all of the team's performances. :)

Nice VCU but doesn't this make it that US East has 5 teams....

5 US East teams. But at this point, I don't even care. Great to see another team coming back for another year

It's great to see another talented college team in the lineup, but at the same time, to take 5 US East teams is just completely going back on the Elite 8 model that has been sick for the past few years. The excellent teams from all over North America competing in one venue is what really drove us to love this competition, but it seems like it's just any other comp with a relatively stacked lineup now.

^^ Agreed.

Imagine if this year Elite 8 decided to announce teams using their typical videos of "Representing XXXXX (region)" and then drew the red line from the team's home city to Washington D.C.

There would be A LOT of little red lines if you know that I mean.

P.S. - Congrats VCU - do it big guys!

There's no way anyone on the west coast would commit at this point though; it's too late in the game. It's probably not ideally what the committee wanted, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

As much as everyone is complaining about there being 5 US East teams in the line up, by no means are any of them bad. On top of that, these teams all have great accolades and constantly entertain us with great performances.
Plus between VCU , JJ, SMD, AEG, & UNC there are 20 some trophies at the very minimum. It'll be a great show either way and the sausagefest everyone was so worried about won't be too big of an issue.

It hurts that NJ, SGPD, PCBCA, & Empire won't be there, but these other teams have earned the right to perform at Elite 8 with their history and their latest performances.
Can't wait for the show to be honest, and it definitely became that much more interesting with the recent events.

The hype of Elite 8 came from the format of teams representing their regions and as mentioned, it's unfortunate to see that not present this year. But at the same time, would you have preferred to see 2 teams from every region or the 8 best teams they could bring to that stage? There might not be as much hype, but these teams will more likely bring better performances than picking up a newer or retired team from Canada East or Canada West.

Congratulations, VCU! SGPD may not be present anymore, but it's good to see a former Elite 8 champion in the line-up again!

I understand the claim that this is the best way to get 8 great teams in one competition and adding other US East teams was the best way to get there, but I disagree with the premise that the 8 best teams in North America would make the best lineup of 8 at Elite. I still think that what separated this competition from the rest was the diversity in dance styles and teams representing regions. Honestly, I would rather see a bit rougher of a team from Canada East/West to preserve this distinctive factor of Elite 8. The competition was not amazing just because there were 8 teams with great sets, but more so because of the geographical diversity the competition brought that other elite competitions didn't bring. It did give teams with a bit lesser talent fight with the big boys to represent their region. But if really no other Canada team would commit, then taking another amazing US East team makes sense.
