Expressions/Singing

Haha this reminds me of the year that everyone danced to Sachiyaan Sunaiyaan by Lehmber. The lyrics are pretty sad, but every team that used it would go crazy on stage because it had a fast beat.

Andddd I love lip synching on stage. I guess it's not traditional but it really gets me into the music.

Nope, it all comes from the wise words of the one and only Tyra Banks. Smile with your eyes and you will continue on in hopes of becoming America's Next Top Model.

No, I wasn't even thinking about that post. I'm serious though. There are some pretty amazing things that can be done with with the muscles around the eyes and brow.

Your mouth should move like the guy in black at 0:22 or the guy in red standing on the tower:

I'm curious... what song is this that you feel you can't smile for?

Smile with your eyes. :D -BRRUAH
Akh dey isharay - Manjot
hahaha but true

Parul -I do not know if this will help but our co-captain said to act the part. so if serious play that, if fun/happy do that
but it depends how comfortable you are...it will look nice if everyone is doing the same expression/singing.
I think singing looks good either way (male/female)

i guess play actin is kinda wat im gonna lean towards rite now after tryin out a few different facial expressions in the mirror and havin a friend judge...its just annoying b/c sure it'll work for the girls b/c the song comes from a girl's perspective but i cant just put myself into a guy's place and think of wat they shud do.....b/c once u kno the emotion u want ppl to portray its alot easier to make the song into something

thanks for the help still

and the video did helppp now i got prooffff for its important to emphasize ur eyes too :p

lol who dances to serious songs?.............and Parul, it sounds like you are kind of choreographing your expressions. Thats not good. They should come natural because honestly whatever you are planning on doing for whatever song, probably wont happen, or it wont turn out the way you want it to. just an opinion.

yea don't prepare your facial expressions...if it helps go over the lyrics with your people so they understand the song and the meaning..then the expression will come naturally...the last then a dancers need to worry about is if he remember what expression go where...

i think it looks weird when ppl sing or like randomly stick out their tongue or motion "oh ya" or anythin else with their lips. straight up smile looks best throughout the whole routine.

i dance to serious songs!!!! its not always fun and games :p jk....wanted to see how it wud turn out.....

but it does sound like im tryin to impose facial expressions now...and i guess i really cant.....but wat do u do when u have a person on ur team who hasnt really done bhangra before how do u explain to them that durin this song i want u to portray this emotion w/out really imposing it

plus i noticed 99.999% of the time i do the dance my facial expressions nvr really do change-if u got a set idea in ur mind bout the dance and the song...its hard to change that idea into something else..
its a good thing i dont gotta deal w/this dilemma always....and that alot of the bhangra songs are actually songs were u can just straight up smile :)

this is a really good topic that you have brought up
i always sing and smile/give expressions
makes it more fun for the dancers and it doesn't look that the dancers are not enjoying their own performance to the audience
good topic once again :)

-woww i didnt kno this wud pop up thats crazyy oh ya in red too!!!!

but i think this wud just go under here and i didnt wanna start a new post and its nice to categorize everything bout expressions under 1 so that way its easier to find ritee ok sweet =D

anywayzzzz

so after watchin a few performances, i've noticed that at times people's facial expressions/body language sometimes over does it

this is just a general example:
so, girls when they do bhangra/gidha (or just in general in our culture when they dance) are supposed to look graceful and beautiful and etc.....well i've noticed this doesnt show in every situation but at times i feel like some of the facial expressions get carried away and start looking flirty and well just not meant for bhangra, but more suited towards bollywood songs and etc, or she just overly shakes her hips or something again once more to me seems suited for bollywood dances
-and even at times guys facial expressions may come to a point where it might get to aggressive/flirty etc

so, just wondering do people think that yes people are okay to potray these facial expressions based on the song/style/etc or no, it shud be watched and if so for wat reasons?

:) Smiling is the best thing. It comes out naturally and you don't have to do anything, it just happens. Lip syncing, i doubt anyone would want to do lip syncing, because it's actually harder than singing..just moving your lips without actual words coming out, it's just too hard. Even if you were lip syncing/singing, it completely changes your focus. Your doing a step and your singing, 1-just looks stupid. 2- If you forget the lyrics, chances are you might end up doing something wrong.
